Dear Colleagues, The conflict in Ukraine, alongwith other ongoing humanitarian crises, remind us of the importance of efforts to strengthen Nutrition in Emergencies. The COVID-19 pandemic broadened those efforts in different ways – you can read about the GNC and Alliance’s initiatives and progress in our 2021 Annual Report, now online. Many of the lessons learned in the previous 12 months should help us to respond to new challenges in the year ahead.

Humanitarian Emergency in UkraineThe military operation in Ukraine poses an immediate and growing threat to the lives and well-being of the entire country’s population. As clashes escalate, a growing number of people are being displaced every day within Ukraine and across international borders. According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), a staggering 1 million have fled Ukraine during the last week. The UN and humanitarian partners launched a coordinated emergency appeal for US$1.7 billion to urgently deliver humanitarian support to people in Ukraine and refugees in neighbouring countries. |
