Mrs. Silva, Salado Elementary Librarian, celebrated National Read Across America day with an online literacy event on Wednesday, March 2. She had an interactive read-aloud of The Smart Cookie by Jory John and then a fun directive drawing activity where participants drew their smart cookie. With this book, Patriots learned there are many different ways to be innovative and were able to share their "Aha I am a smart cookie" moment.

Superintendent Student of the Month, Maddison Pansza, is a Pre-K student in Mrs. Betancourt's class at Highland Forest Elementary.
Superintendent Student of the Month Maddison Pansza is a Pre-K student in Mrs. Betancourt's class at Highland Forest Elementary. Mrs. Betancourt writes, "Maddison is kind and caring and displays being Safe, Respectful and Responsible all day in my class. Maddison helps to clean up even when she did not make the mess, and this shows respectfulness for our class. She also shows safety in the classroom and hallways by walking on one side of the hall when other classes pass by. Maddison is an inspiration to have in class and is eager to learn every day. It truly is a blessing to have her in my class."

Tradition Elementary held a door decorating contest during the month of February for Black History Month. Four classrooms were chosen as winners! Congratulations to Mrs. Mills' class for winning "Most creative use of materials," Mrs. D. Wilson's class for winning "Most Student Centered," Mrs. Robinson's class for winning "Most Interactive Display," and Mrs. West's class for winning, "The best of the best." And a big thanks to the judges: Bryston Robinson (Legacy), Courtney Crawford (Heritage) and Dominique Crawford (Pecan Valley).

First, students listened to customer orders to determine the shape of the cookie ordered and then partitioned the cookie order using frosting. Finally, students made sure to repeat back the customer's order by describing the fractional parts of their cookie!

Salado Elementary PE Night was held in the school gym. With Coach Martinez's assistance, Coach Steen set stations for Salado families to play, be active, and build community. Students and their families bowled, golfed, climbed the rock wall, and played soccer, to name a few of the activities. Community partners, On Par Golf, introduced the game of golf to our students. In addition, ECISD Child Nutrition had nutritious smoothies and handouts, while Kona Ice had its refreshing shaved ice available. All had fun.

The Heritage Middle School Elective Fair for the 2022-2023 school year was an amazing success, with over 800 students and parents that attended our event. In addition, our current 6th and 7th-grade students and our incoming 5th graders were able to meet with our Elective Teachers and our Counselors to help them with their choice selection for next year. We are excited about meeting our future Hurricanes!

Students began to work on their projects in September, focusing on the theme of Debate and Diplomacy. The following students will be advancing to the state competition at the Bob Bullock Museum on April 23, 2022. Heritage Middle School Choirs had great success at UIL on March 2 and 3! The Men's Choir presented a superior concert performance, earning the second boys UIL trophy in Heritage history. The Honor Choir girls earned a Superior rating from every judge for both concert and sight-singing. This is the first sweepstakes in 10 years! CONGRATULATIONS!!

Congratulations to Jessica Hernandez and Wanda Eatmon, fabulous Algebra co-teachers from Legacy Middle School! Ms. Hernandez and Ms. Eatmon were honored as Feature Teachers at our last SDI Webinar on March 1, hosted by Reg. 20 SDI partners. Over 75 district co-teachers, administrators and instructional leadership members were on hand to celebrate this pair's persistent pursuit of excellence in the design and implementation of SDI for our students with IEPs.

Saturday, February 27, three East Central High School students exhibited their Ag. Mechanics projects at the San Antonio Ag Mechanics show and received Blue ribbons. Jaden Adams and Sterling also won their class and won Reserve Champion in their respective Division.

East Central High School girls basketball volunteered their time at the San Antonio Sports iplay Basketball tournament.

East Central High School girls basketball volunteered their time at the San Antonio Sports iPlay Basketball tournament. The team worked the scores table on six courts, and some even had the chance to be referees. The girls were excited to help out with a program that promotes basketball and healthy, active lifestyles for young students.

Miss Miller's English 2 and Mrs. Miller's Aquatic Science/AP Environmental Science students at East Central High School made observations in the East Central Riparian Area in a team field exercise recently.

Miss Miller's English 2 and Mrs. Miller's Aquatic Science/AP Environmental Science students at East Central High School made recent observations in the East Central Riparian Area in a team field exercise. English 2 students were spending time observing a natural ecosystem and learning about the ethnobotanical connections between our native species and humans to gain material for their Transcendental poetry production. In addition, EnviroHornets and AquaHornets were cataloging evidence of species pictorially in the area to assist in creating a biodiversity website and collecting specimens on slides for an air quality study in particulate matter.

Eleven qualifying athletes from the East Central High School's Girls Powerlifting team traveled to Edinburgh Texas this month to compete in the regional competition.

Eleven qualifying athletes from the East Central High School's Girls Powerlifting team traveled to Edinburgh, Texas, this month to compete in the regional competition. The girls showed that hard work paid off throughout the competition, and almost every athlete set personal records on different lifts. Special Recognition goes to Devany Monsivais, Kalina Martin and Illiana Perez for qualifying for the State meet. Monsivais finished the day with a silver medal for the 105 weight class. Martin and Perez made it to State by lifting 675 pounds, respectively. Congratulations to all the athletes!

The East Central High School Theatre Department has been selected as one of three finalists out of all San Antonio area schools in the Junior League of San Antonio FAME competition. They will compete on March 25 at the Carver Community Cultural Center.

East Central ISD counselors participated in a teambuilding activity during the District's Counseling meeting. The teams were trying to build the tallest tower with ONLY the yellow paper provided. We learned several lessons from this activity that we can use in our daily work! Great work, counselors!

The Child Nutrition department celebrated National School Breakfast Week in all of our cafeterias! Students got to try new breakfast items, and elementary students were given out coloring sheets to color and had displayed in all cafeteria lines. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! We celebrated Dr. Sesuss' birthday, and students enjoyed beautiful Schlopp with a cherry on top. We jumped in and helped the Salado PE department celebrate fitness! We offered samples of our Strawberry Smoothie and handed out coloring books, stickers and magnets. Let's play!
