SPOTLIGHT on YOU at Annual Conference! FCS Fast Talks Call for Proposals

If you are a young or seasoned professional and have an idea to share, we invite you to step up to the podium and present your very own FCS Fast Talk in Orlando

The conference will spotlight 10-minute FCS Fast Talks sessions in the new Hub (formerly the Expo) from June 25-27. We invite you to have the spotlight on YOU and submit a proposal to present in these sessions. Share your impactful ideas, outreach efforts, innovative programs and strategies, and/or creative collaborations in just 10 minutes in the EXPO/Hub.  

This Call for Proposals is open to members and non-members and all selected presenters will need to register for the conference. The deadline is April 1st. Click here for more details.

Showcase Your Apparel, Textiles, and Design

The Community of Apparel, Textiles, and Design is now accepting entries for the 2022 Juried Showcase.  Submit a publishable abstract and photos to showcase your best work in apparel design/clothing & wearable textile art, art & design/fiber/non-fiber, interior design/housing & textile art, and other creative areas. If selected, you will make an oral presentation and exhibit your work during the conference. Members and Nonmembers may submit.  Submission of an entry, or entries, indicates that submitter(s) or sponsoring AAFCS member agree(s) to register for the conference and make a presentation of the accepted work.  Entries are being accepted in the categories of:
•    Apparel, Design & Clothing
•    Wearable Textile Art
•    Interior Textile Art

Share Your Innovative Ideas and Programs

Members and nonmembers are invited to share their programs and materials at the 2022 AAFCS conference by participating in the Elementary Secondary and Adult Education Community Curriculum Showcase. (AAFCS Affiliate Teachers of the Year are requested to participate in the Curriculum Showcase.)

The showcase features displays of recently-developed materials that may include curricula, videos, software, student work, pamphlets, posters, books, samples, and marketing items. Click here for more information and to download the “Call for Applications.”  Deadline is April 15th.

AAFCS AWARDS ALERT 

The 2022 AAFCS Awards are DUE soon! Guidelines, applications, and additional resources can be found on our website. Applications and materials are due 3/14/2022. The 2022 available awards are Distinguished Service Award (DSA), Teacher of the Year (TOY), Undergraduate Scholarship, Graduate Fellowships, New Achiever and Leader Awards.

Award recipients will be recognized during the 2022 AAFCS Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Our Journal of Family & Consumer Sciences issues are hosted on Ingenta Connect. As a member, you can set up your account and start accessing the Journal by following this one-time sign-up process. If you forgot your login details, click on Forgot Password or you can email membership@aafcs.org for assistance.

Register and Activate

  1. Go to www.ingentaconnect.com/register/personal. You can review Ingenta's Data Privacy Statement here.
  2. Enter your information in the fields, including your username and password.
  3. Click on the “Register” button at the bottom of the page.
  4. Click the “Activating Current Subscriptions” link.
  5. Click the “Add” tab.
  6. Search for “Journal of Family & Consumer Sciences.”
  7. Tick the box to the left of the journal title and enter your member number in the box provided to the right. Then click the “add” button.
  8. Once access has been verified (could take until next business day), the journal title will appear in your current subscriptions list within your Ingenta Connect account.

Every year, the Home Baking Association sponsors the Educator Award to recognize outstanding baking educators. Please review the website for full details on sending in your 2022 Educator Award entry. Entry deadline is March 31.

CALL FOR PAPER
Special Issue “Consuming in Hospitality and Tourism during Pre- and Post-Pandemic”

 

The Family and Consumer Sciences Research Journal would like to cordially invite scholars to contribute an article to the Special Issue titled “Consuming in Hospitality and Tourism during Pre-and Post-Pandemic.” The COVID-19 pandemic has made the hospitality and tourism industry into an unprecedented challenging environment since 2020. Understanding consumption in Hospitality and Tourism during pre-and post-pandemic is essential to surviving in the unpredictable market environment. Short-term and long-term strategic practices and solutions are needed to develop and implement for the present and future. Thus, the focused area of this special issue should stress the importance of consumers’ behavioral changes and adaptation. The guest editors would like to take this opportunity to bring significant attention among hospitality and tourism scholars on understanding consumers during pre-and post-pandemic and give insight on strategies prepare for the future. REMINDER: Certification Renewal Information 

While renewal email reminders were sent throughout the fall, a round of paper invoices will be mailed in January.  Certification renewal is based upon payment of the maintenance fee (paid annually) and submission of 75 PDUs (reported at the end of the cycle).  The due date for fee payment and PDUs is March 15th.  PDU reporting is due for those whose 3-year certification cycle ends August 31 of the most recent year. To check your cycle dates and the number of PDUs recorded, please log into MyAAFCS.  For more information about certification renewal, visit the website
