Double Loud "Shout Out" to

MICAH HAHN

Jynene Black | Alaska INBRE Reporting and Outreach Coordinator
Micah Hahn, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Environmental  Health at UAA, received an NIH K award and has a publication just released.

Micah was an INBRE Pilot awardee in MOD19, and received a Summer 2021 Curriculum Development award. The title of her pilot was "Understanding the Risk of Ticks and Tick-born Pathogens in Alaska." Her new publication on modeling the future habitat of I. pacificus in Alaska resulted from the work completed on her pilot. Alaska INBRE contributed to her publication fees through our Publication award.

Hahn reported, "This study allowed us to extend climate-based habitat suitability models that have been developed for this
species in the Lower 48 to Alaska and apply future climate scenarios to get a sneak peek into where these ticks might be able to survive in the future once introduced. This tick is an important vector of Lyme disease on the West Coast and in British Columbia and has been found in Alaska (but no evidence that it's established here yet)." Complete article is available here.

Dr. Hahn's K award, "Convergence of multiple exposures dueing pregnancy: Effect of wildfires and maternal stressors on birth outcomes among Alaskan women," is from the NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. Hahn said her very first written NIH-style proposal was her INBRE pilot.
