eNewsletter, March 2022, Oakmont Art Association

With the relaxation of county rules on Covid we are returning to meeting in person at the Berger Center for our monthly meetings.

However, you can also attend this meeting by Zoom, or watch a recording of it later on the OVA website.  We have had several requests to record our meetings, and because of this we have made this and following meetings hybrid zoom meetings which you can attend in person or by Zoom, or watch a recording of them later.  The link for the Zoom meeting is below and we will send it out next Thursday 10th March as well.

This month, on Friday March 11 at 10 am for socializing and 10:30 am for the presentation, local artist Kristen Throop will present a unique talk on The Princesse,  a painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  See below for more details.
The Princesse
During this visually opulent talk, local artist Kristen Throop, will weave a narrative web around J.A.D. Ingres’s 1853 masterpiece, his portrait of Pauline de Broglie, which hangs at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. Illustrated with numerous original artworks by Throop, this discussion uses Ingres’s masterpiece as a lens to rethink art history.
About the Speaker
Kristen Throop is a Sonoma County artist and part of the SOFA art neighborhood in Santa Rosa. Originally from the East coast, she walks the halls of the Metropolitan Museum in her dreams.

Throop was hired by the County of Sonoma to create 65 unique signs for the shelters at Los Guilicos Village in 2019.
As an artist, Throop works in series, first selecting a subject, such as cows, bears, T-Rex, Technicolor or a portrait by Ingres. She then deeply researches the subject and creates a unique body of work that tranforms the viewer’s understanding.

Throop has been working on this series focusing on Ingres’ portrait of Pauline de Broglie for the past five years and has created hundreds of works relating to it. An exhibit of this work will be at the Hammerfriar Gallery in Healdsburg this July and August.
