Hello everyone,

Further down the email see the winners of the February competition ' Texture'  The winner recieved a £20 voucher

The Community Art Project on the High Street Leighton Buzzard on Sat 5th March was very successful with many people painting sunflowers. We also set up a mini exhibitioon and sold several paintings. The money from the paintings sales (Kindly donated by members of LBAS) and other donations  raised £350 for the Ukrainian Humanitarian Relief Fund. There was some great work on show - a huge thank you to everyone who helped and contributed.

The program of workshops and classes is on our website - there are a few more to be added towards the end of the year, but we are now taking bookings. If you are interested in attending please let us know, they will be subsidised and some will be available to members only. - All very exciting stuff!

We have several things coming up so check out the Events Calendar

Survey - Sarah Cripps has put together an excellent survey to see what members want from the society. It will be arriving in members inboxes within the next few days, so please complete ASAP - Thank you!

PISSARRO

FATHER OF IMPRESSIONISM

Monday 4th April - Event Organiser - Sarah Cripps sarahcrippslb@gmail.com
Trip to see Pissarro: Father of Impressionism at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford
This major exhibition, of works drawn from the Ashmolean's collections as well as international loans, will span Pissarro's entire career.
Camille Pissarro (1830–1903) is one of the most celebrated artists of nineteenth-century France and a central figure in Impressionism. Considered a father-figure to many in the movement, his work was enormously influential for many artists, including Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne.
We will be visiting on Monday 4th April at 11.30 am. After seeing the exhibition, we can have lunch and then look around the rest of the museum. Friends and family are welcome as well as LBAS members. If you'd like to go, please book your own ticket in advance and let Sarah Cripps know that you're coming on sarahcrippslb@gmail.com

We will be organising car shares to the Oxford Park and Ride. Please let Sarah know if you are able to drive and offer seats to others, or if you need a seat with someone else.

Our Next Meeting will be on
Thursday 17th March
7.45 - 10.00pm  Art Demonstration - Suzy Southerton - Portrait in Oils

Join local artist Suzy Southerton who will be painting a portrait in oil on linen and is looking forward to welcoming you to this event.

During the demo of a head study Suzy aims to reveal her tried and tested methods and techniques for  depicting the sitter, as well as the thought processes involved. The evening will start off with a short intro about Suzy’s art-practice history, and then she can commence with the demo.

From initial marks and outlines, Suzy will share her approach and the stages of her process, gradually refining the image and adding in details.  If time allows she’ll finish with highlights on some of the features.  Portraiture has always been her first love, evident in her honest observations on canvas. The artist has won awards and honourable mentions for her portraits in particular.

Of her art-practice Suzy says: “Whilst painting a person’s face, a portrait, it’s always an exciting challenge to capture that something extra, not just a good likeness, but an inkling of that person’s character or mood.”

Come and enjoy watching Suzy as she shares her insights into painting a portrait in oil.

Free to LBAS Members , non members welcome for the small fee of £6 on the door. This can be deducted from the membership fee if you join the society by the end of the month
