In September last year we announced the appointment of David Jupe as our new FUJIFILM Business Innovation Managing Director. An experienced senior leader with a background in education, David stepped into the role from his previous position with the company as General Manager - Managed Services.

He has more than two decades of domestic and international experience in printing, graphic communications and outsourced services, and has previously led two of New Zealand’s largest commercial print companies as CEO.
Beyond his extensive background in the commercial space, David also has experience in the education sector having started his career as a teacher at Panama Road School in Auckland before transitioning into the corporate world.

As our company continues its transformation to help customers on their digital transformation journey, David is ready and excited for the future. “Our industry has undergone a huge amount of change in recent years, both due to pre-existing trends and the impacts of COVID. Like for the education sector, this has been challenging in many ways, and my focus is on ensuring we have a sustainable, long-term business that helps our customers solve challenges and achieve better outcomes – regardless of the industry they work in,” David said.

David is looking forward to meeting education customers around the country in the coming months and engaging with Independent Schools of NZ members at the conference in August.

Sharon Zollner - Chief Economist ANZ New Zealand: 2022 may be a year of economic normalisation.

As we look ahead to what 2022 might bring, ANZ Chief Economist Sharon Zollner writes, while it might feel like tougher going, it’s looking like a year of normalisation on a range of fronts – not a bad thing when the past two years have been anything but.

It’s particularly confusing times on the economic front at the moment. Are we in a boom, a bust, or something in between? Should we be worried?

EdSmart is a cloud-based School Organisation System (SOS) for streamlining and enhancing daily school administration and relationship management.

It is unlike any other other school administration platform available. Why? It functions by integrating with all school databases and transfers data between systems. Data interoperability and integration is the key that increases the potential of the EdSmart SOS and makes it so incredibly powerful.

The EdSmart SOS acts as the third pillar of school administration. It redefines the organisational structure of school information, opening schools to new, progressive methods for managing workflows, engagement and culture.

EdSmart helps schools run smarter.

The term ‘identity data’ refers to digital information that can be linked back to you as a person.

As David Eedle, Co-Founder and CEO of EdSmart, explains, “There is a phenomenal amount of data generated every moment, and the vast majority of that data has a connection back to an individual person. That is identity data.”

“Schools maintain records and information about staff, about students, about former students and parents,” continues David. “Sometimes, that data is minimal – a first name, a last name and email address. Other times, particularly for students, it's incredibly detailed and it can include information that's classed as sensitive – medical, pastoral care, mental health and so on. Obviously, that information is intensely private to that individual, and it has to be maintained and guarded and protected to the best possible degree.”

myWhānau: Making school communications simple!

The myWhānau School Calendar Assistant is a ground-breaking app that makes it easy for parents to stay on top of school communications. It’s the only calendar-based app that aggregates information from school emails, newsletters, websites and portals and automatically creates personalised calendar entries that include all the details parents need – regardless of how the communication was sent.

School parent tasks like completing permission slips or registering for events are diarised with automatic deadlines and reminders, and parents can mark these tasks as complete once actioned. An end-of-day notification summarises all new communications and the following day’s tasks and events.

Each family’s calendar entries are personalised by class (primary) or year (secondary). Teachers can add information about special materials or uniforms required, giving them confidence that students will arrive to class prepared.

myWhānau makes a tangible difference to parents’ mental load, with 91% of users feeling more organised and 87% less frustrated managing school communications.

myWhānau is free for schools and families

The myWhānau School Calendar Assistant is free for schools and families. There’s no integration effort or data entry required, and it can only be accessed by users approved by the school.

COVIDCare - CO2 monitoring for Omicron and beyond; Tether

It has been incredible to be able to support the many independent schools who have taken responsibility for the health of their air, their pupils, their staff and their community. Thank you for your proactive leadership and support.

Feedback from our schools has been invaluable: many have commented on the relief of being able to manage their risk and knowing when to ventilate. Across the board, teachers have tracked the “2pm CO2 spike”, resulting in restless, tired pupils. Up until now, that was mostly attributed to full bellies and a long day, but now they have the data to prove that the most probable cause is stuffy air. Replacing that stale air with fresh air not only reduces COVID transmission risk, it has had a noticeable improvement on focus and concentration, especially during these hot afternoons. Tips on how to improve ventilation in your classrooms can be found here.

Now that the Omicron wave is peaking in New Zealand, there have been questions as to whether CO2 monitoring is still worth it. The answer is a resounding yes. COVID-19 has made us aware of the impact that air in enclosed spaces has on us - something that Tether has been passionate about since our inception. CO2 monitors will continue to flag the health of your air, aiding in reducing transmission risk of further COVID mutations and all other airborne viruses such as the flu and RSV, which will be our next challenge in a few months.

We look forward to continuing to support you in creating optimum environments that encourage curiosity and making informed decisions based on the critical evaluation of data.
