GROW/AGM - Friday March 11th @ 7:30pm

We're voting on our new constitution!

7.30PM | Friday 11th March 2022 | 275 Keira St, Wollongong
RSVP via Facebook Event Here!

We hope to see you this Friday, Friends!

3 reasons why the new Constitution is better than the old one:

  1. It introduces a Review Panel to provide accountability and stability to the role of Lead Pastor
This new Panel is responsible for the discipline, removal and appointment of our Lead Pastor. If the Lead Pastor position is vacant - the Review Panel shares the responsibility of a search with the “Selection Panel”, which now consists of both Men and Women from within Salt Church.

  2. It makes Salt Church safer
Alongside a significant upgrade of our safe ministry policy and practice, our new constitution puts us in a substantially better place when it comes to accountability for leadership at Salt through the addition of an investigation panel (made up of a diverse range of members and independent experts).

  3. It brings clarity to what we believe
Our statement of beliefs has been reviewed, bringing much needed clarity on marriage, singleness, gender and the roles of men and women in Gospel partnership.

“A safe and stable Salt Church with good governance and accountability for leadership is integral to our vision to see a flood of lifelong disciples.”
- Michael Plaege

Here’s a short video from Michael explaining some of these key changes. You read the new Constitution as well as other helpful info here - Constitution & helpful resources.

Testimony from committee members:

Why they think this new Constitution is a significant improvement...
Sharon I'onsSharon I'Ons (10am)
“I am pleased with the final version of the SALT Inc Constitution. In conjunction with the work which has been done on our Safe Ministry, Grievance and Code of Conduct policies, we are well placed to protect the members of SALT Inc, FIEC and the Lead Pastor. In particular, the Review Panel has been set up to be able to fulfil its main functions in a manner which honours God and draws on the relevant wisdom and experience of appropriate members. The Statement of Faith has also been clarified to better express our beliefs as an organisation.”
Grant WoodGrant Wood (10am)
“The proposed new constitution is a great improvement on our current version. In particular, the change from having a board of reference to a review panel means that I can:
- More easily raise concerns if/when they arise
- Have confidence that the concerns will be listened to and acted on appropriately

I think the arrangement of the review panel and its sub committees is a very good balance of holding strong to Salt’s biblical understanding of eldership yet ensuring appropriate expertise, independence and female representation in the investigation and appointment of the lead pastor. I wish these changes were in the constitution from the start, so join with me to bring them in now!”
