Hello from our Founder

Can you believe we are already in March 2022? Time is flying this year!

Last month we celebrated the 7th anniversary of Her Heart on the 14th February. We hope you have booked in or at least made plans for a heart health check, I can’t stress enough how important it is to get regular health check-ups.

Today (March 8th), we are celebrating International Women’s Day. This year’s theme #BreakTheBias calls on individuals to speak up against bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

In this issue, we are acknowledging National Nutrition month and we have also provided some heart-healthy tips to manage isolation and WFH.

Until next month, stay well & safe,

Warmest wishes
Linda

 International Women's Day

International Women's Day is a time to come together as a community and collectively examine how far we have come as women, while also recognising the work that still lies ahead! This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias, encouraging all of us to spend time having conversations and taking action to challenge and stop gender stereotypes, discrimination as well as bias.

Isolation & Loneliness 😔

While some of us are now looking to move out of lockdowns, there can still be difficulties if you are needing to isolate or quarantine. In a research study with a sample of slightly older (postmenopausal) women they found that up to 27% had an increase in heart disease risk, with high levels of social isolation and loneliness. Heart Healthy Recipes 🫐

It’s Nutrition Month!  Now is as good a time to take a look at your food choices and think about ways to add even more nutritious ingredients and spices to your meals. On the Her Heart website we have a collection of Heart Healthy recipes, if you have a sweet tooth you could try the Chia and Coconut Pudding or if you prefer savoury, try our Vegetable Lasagne recipe.

WFH Heart Tips

Working from home (WFH) may sound like a dream – avoiding rush hour, wearing pj’s all day and working from the couch – however WFH can quickly lead to a sedentary lifestyle. A little self-discipline can go a long way to maintain a heart healthy lifestyle. Try and incorporate some of tips on the image into your next WFH day.
