UvA Crowdfunding for Ukrainian and Russian students in need

With the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 the world as we know it has changed.

The UvA is closely monitoring the situation in the affected areas and is in contact with staff and students who are currently in Ukraine or Russia, and with students and staff from the region who study or work here in Amsterdam. We feel a responsibility towards all affected students, regardless of their origin or nationality.

We want to offer help and we support students and staff who also wish to do so. At this time, the situation in Ukraine is causing acute problems among Ukrainian and Russian students in terms of finances, study progress and residency status/visas. To help these students continue their studies in Amsterdam, we are starting an emergency fund.

Would you like to support students who are directly affected by the situation in Ukraine? Donate now!

The stereotypical image of the streetscape in the 17th and 18th century is well-known: housemaids cleaning on the pavement, men parading with horse and carriage, and women confined to the house with the children. To what extent does this image correspond with reality? Historian Bob Pierik has developed a method to empirically analyse mobility in Amsterdam. Read the full article.

Veni 2022: new planning

In 2022, the planning for the next Veni rounds in NWO Talent Programme will be fully aligned, just as it was prior to the changes that took place last year as a result of the coronavirus crisis and hack at NWO. The decision about the 2021 Veni SSH is planned for April next year, and NWO has considered the best starting dates for 2022 by taking into account the desire not to create an overlap of rounds or introduce new changes to the current evaluation procedures.

The new Veni-planning for all domains is as follows: Deadline for the (mandatory) preproposal is Tuesday 6 September 2022; Deadline for full proposals is Tuesday 24 January 2023; The decision about the Veni proposals for the 2022 round will take place in June 2023. Read more
