Lenten Morning Retreat: Being Nourished with the Bread of Life
Saturday, March 26, 8 a.m. to Noon Grace-St. Luke’s: 1720 Peabody Ave., (Memphis)

Fr. Jesse Abell will offer a morning of reflection and prayer, based on the “Bread of Life” images that Jesus uses in John’s Gospel. As part of the morning, various activities, including bread-baking, will be available. Our time together will close with a Holy Eucharist using some of our freshly baked bread. Premiere of "From Cathedral to City Hall" 
Sunday, April 3 | 3 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral: 700 Poplar Ave. (Memphis)

All citizens and members of the faith community are invited to the premiere screening of From Cathedral to City Hall: A Documentary for Justice at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, 700 Poplar Avenue, Memphis. Produced by Voices For Justice in the Mid-South (VFJM), the film highlights the April 7, 2018 commemoration of the Memphis clergy march to Memphis City Hall in 1968 to confront Mayor Henry Loeb on the morning after the assassination of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Bishop Phoebe. Panelists include Rabbi Harry Danziger, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Israel, who was part of the original march; Albert Moseley, Senior Vice President and Chief Mission Integration Officer for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare; and Civil Rights Movement leader Reverend Dr. James M. Lawson.

All-Diocese Acolyte Training
Sunday, March 27 | 4:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral: 700 Poplar Ave. (Memphis)

Both young people and adults who are interested in becoming acolytes at their various churches and at St. Mary’s are invited to take part in this training, led by senior verger, Mark Henderson, Deacon Drew Woodruff, and your vergers. Braver Angels Interest Meeting (Memphis)
Tuesday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m. | Colonial Park Methodist Church: 5330 Park Avenue (Memphis)

Braver Angels, an organization that seeks to reduce political polarization in Americq, is starting a chapter in Memphis. On March 15th at 5:30 PM, a short presentation, Introducing Braver Angels, will be made to the general public, describing Braver Angels: its mission and activities. This event will be held at Colonial Park Methodist Church at 5330 Park Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Masks and social distancing will be followed per the host site’s requests. Verger Training at St. Mary's Cathedral
Sunday, April 3 | 1 - 2:30 p.m. at SMEC, 700 Poplar Ave. (Memphis)

This 1.5 hour training class is to review the qualifications and training for the ministry of Verger in the Episcopal Church. The class is for both experienced vergers and those that are considering becoming a verger. We will review best practices and share a few humorous stories as well. The class with be jointly led by Scott Blake, the canon verger for the cathedral, and Mark Henderson, Vergers Guild of the Episcopal. Training will include processionals, incense, leadership skills and special services of Easter. All attendees are encouraged to wear black cassocks and verger gowns as appropriate for a group picture before a wine and cheese reception at the end of the class.

Now Hiring: Tenor Section Leader (St. George's Episcopal Church, Germantown)
The Coventry Choir of St. George's Episcopal Church, Germantown, is seeking a paid tenor section leader. The leader will be comfortable singing in both solo and ensemble capacities. Required commitments include a weekly Sunday morning worship service at 10:30am and a weekly Wednesday evening rehearsal 7-9pm, as well as occasional additional services (e.g. Evensong, Holy Week, Christmas, etc.). Previous church choir experience is preferred, though not mandatory. Interested musicians should contact music director Lucas Fletcher at lucas@stgeorgesgermantown.org to arrange an audition.

Music Ministry Grant Opportunity
Deadline: June 30, 2022
St. James Music Press will award a grant to a church starting or revitalizing a choir program. The purpose of this grant is to support new music programs or established music ministries that are adding a new element by offering resources and professional support.

Elements awarded in the grant include:

  • Complementary 1-Year Membership to St. James Music Press 
  • $1000 - To support ministry needs
  • Quarterly program consultations with SJMP colleagues meant to help recipients maximize their SJMP membership, discuss program challenges, and celebrate/build upon program successes.


Funds are used at the discretion of the grant recipient and could include but are not limited to:

  • New equipment
  • Funding a retreat
  • Instrument repair
  • Changes to worship or rehearsal spaces
