Frenkel Biexcitons Light Up Organic Semiconductor Advances

Organic semiconductors already provide the energy behind optical technologies inside television displays, solar cells, and lighting fixtures. Their molecular carbon-based structure makes them cheaper to produce, more flexible, of lighter weight, and more environmentally friendly than silicon-based or composite semiconductors. The future in more applications is bright — if scientists can learn more about harnessing their ability to react to and produce light.

Research from Georgia Tech and Emory University Leads to FDA Breakthrough Designation for New PTSD Treatment

Post-traumatic stress disorder affects about 15 million adults in the U.S. each year. It’s a disabling psychiatric disorder with few treatment options. A pilot study from Georgia Tech researcher Omer Inan and Emory University psychiatrist Douglas Bremner opens the door to a hopeful new therapeutic alternative for people suffering from PTSD.

Keyence VK-X3000 3D Surface Profiler

This month we are highlighting the Keyence VK-X3000 3D Surface Profiler, which performs non-contact profile, roughness, and film thickness measurements with nanometer-level resolution on any material or shape. Unlike other 3D measurement systems, objects with steep angles or low-reflectivity can be accurately measured. It is the world’s first optical profiler to offer a triple scan approach, allowing users three different scanning methods in a single device: laser confocal, focus variation, and white light interferometry. The VK-X3000 also offers guaranteed measurement accuracy, high-speed scanning, and optimized optics to eliminate aberration.
