AIRPORT AUTHORITY MEETING SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, APRIL 4, 2022
The monthly meeting of the Perry-Houston County Airport Authority is scheduled for Monday, April 4, at 4 pm at the new Perry-Houston County Airport terminal. The meeting will be open to the public.

Construction on the resurfacing and extension of runway 36-18 will begin Monday April 4 0700. The runway and taxiway Alpha will be closed for approximately 4-6 weeks, depending on weather.  Macon Regional, KMCN, is offering a tie-down space for PXE aircraft for $75.00/month according to Lowe Aviation.  MCN runways will also be closed from Monday, April 4 through Friday, April 8, 2000-0630 each evening.

During March, Georgia Forestry demonstrated fire-fighting techniques with their aerial fire engines.  The Perry and Houston County Fire Departments were shown water loading methods for the aircraft.  PXE personnel were present to practice hot-fueling the aircraft.  Kenny Beck, one of the Thrush (which incidentally is made in Albany, GA.) pilots of the Georgia Forestry Unit is shown explaining techniques to the local area firefighters.

We are now in the new terminal/FBO building at 375 Myrtle Field Rd.  The new corporate hangar is operational and is already being utilized .  It's been a seemingly long journey, but the finished product is worth the wait.  Drop by and take a look. We are open from 0800 to 1800 daily and the coffee is always hot and fresh.

Hello!

For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Brett Speth.  A little bit about me:  I live here in Perry, I’m retired from the USAF, I teach part-time as an Assistant Professor of Aviation at Middle Georgia State University, I fly full-time for United Airlines out of Washington DC, I’m rated with an ATP Land, COMM Sea, CFI, CFII & MEI and I own a Carbon Cub I base here at KPXE.  I love flying, our town, our airport and the people in and on it…

What I am writing about today is my duty as the AOPA Airport Support Network (ASN) Volunteer for our airport.  Short overview, the AOPA ASN program was created 1997 during the long battle with the city of Chicago to not destroy Meigs Field.  Ultimately the airfield was destroyed in the middle of the night with zero warning.  After that, AOPA felt there should be people actively watching out for the airports and being the “eyes and ears” for them across the country.  There are more than 1600 ASN Volunteers keeping an eye on their local airports and keeping AOPA informed of what is going on.  My role here is to make sure the community and the airport are getting along, to be a liaison of sorts between the pilots, the airport management as well as the local community and keep AOPA updated on anything we may need their help on.  Ultimately the goal of the AOPA is to keep our airports open and available for all of us to enjoy.  Luckily, our airport has a tremendous amount of support from the local government and we are situated in a place where we currently aren’t feeling much pressure from encroachment.  I plan on using this little part of future newsletters as a way to stay connected with some of you I haven’t met yet or don’t run into very often and to establish that I am here to listen, help and monitor.  Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about what I do or if you see/hear of anything that might be an “issue” for the airport.

You can email me at ASN@PXEAIRPORT.COM

I also encourage you to explore the ASN page on the AOPA website to get more familiar.

If you see me on the field, please stop me and say hello!

Respectfully,

Brett Speth

AOPA ASN Volunteer, KPXE
