Dear <<First Name>>,

This past week, I was honoured to attend the opening of the Paul McDonell Residence. I am so proud of the partnerships of the Province (BC Housing), Thind Properties, City of Burnaby and New Vista Society opening up 125 affordable rentals at The Paul McDonell Residence.

The Paul McDonell Residence was named by New Vista Society in honour of our dear friend Paul McDonell aka “Mr. Burnaby” and his legacy for community service and advocacy. Paul McDonell was a very dear friend, and I know how much this community meant to him.

The much-needed housing project will provide housing for people with low to moderate income.

Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the past week:

Families benefit from $10 a Day Childcare BC spaces

The pandemic has shone a light on the fact that parents, especially women, work harder, make less money, and lose out on opportunities without access to affordable child care. We’re announcing new $10 a day spaces at child care centres across the province, creating dramatic savings for parents. Burnaby has 4 spaces part of this announcement!

We’re making progress, and it’s lowering the cost of living for families in every part of the province – but we still have more work to do.

Recovery and Resiliency Fund provides new support for B.C.'s non-profit sector

Non-profits have been there for British Columbians during the past year's challenges. We're announcing a new $34 million fund for non-profit groups in B.C. affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to struggle during recovery.

This funding will ensure organizations can continue the vital work for the people and communities that rely on them.

More than $530,000 raised in support of Ukraine

In less than three weeks, B.C. Liquor and B.C. Cannabis stores customers have donated more than $530,000 to support the Canadian Red Cross’s Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.

“It is clear from the remarkable response to this campaign that what is happening in Ukraine has touched people all across the province—seeing B.C. Liquor and B.C. Cannabis store employees’ support for this campaign and the customers’ compassion and generosity shows how willing people in B.C. are to step up and support their local and international communities when it is needed most,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Finance.

Outstanding people recognized for service during the pandemic

Over the last two years, we’ve all faced incredible challenges, and some have struggled more than others. 31 people from throughout B.C. and in the group were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the well-being of their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The recipient's acts of kindness and selfless service during the COVID-19 pandemic made a tremendous impact on the community and in the lives of others. Special shout out to Burnaby's very own, Steven Ngo. Thank you for your advocacy and for being a valuable member of our communities.
