Hey, Comets!

2021-22
SEASON WRAP UP

WAS THIS OUR WETTEST SUMMER EVER?!

2021-22 has certainly been by far the most challenging season in our collective memory, spanning back 25 or so years!
On top of ongoing uncertainty due to the impact of Covid, including the shortened schedule, we have had to deal with added and ongoing disruptions to training and games due to copious amounts of rain. While it's not unusual for a number of games to be washed out each Summer, this year the rain played havoc with our fields and many of our home games, along with a lot of other clubs, were washed out with some teams playing less than HALF their scheduled games.
Club President, Tony Solano, wishes to extend his thanks to you all for your patience, perseverance and assistance to help us get as much game time as possible for our teams.
This is also an opportunity to acknowledge the fantastic work of our club committee who got our season up and running in a very difficult environment. What usually takes several months of pre-season planning was accomplished in several weeks with a lot of hard work and cooperation from the committee, including our two partner schools, Rosebank College and St Patricks College.
Despite all of the challenges we hope that everyone enjoyed the season and that you're looking forward to the break and a return to normal for next season.

SEASON RESULTS AND GRAND FINALS

ALL that rain couldn't dampen our teams' spirits or performance though, with five Junior teams, and two of our PCBL Senior teams finishing in the top two places of their competitions and making it into Grand Finals.
Congratulations to the following teams
Concord Zooka Red, who are hopeful of playing their previously washed out Grand Final against North Sydney this weekend
Concord Minor South,  who had a hard-fought Grand Final against Boomers on Tuesday night at Glover Street, finishing as Runners Up by only one run.
Concord Senior League D1 - this team has played an almost undefeated season with only one loss to the top finishing Steelers team. They were scheduled to play their Grand Final at Golden Jubilee this evening but it was unfortunately washed out again and so they have finished their competition as Runners Up
Concord St Pats SL D3 Gold, who are also hopeful of playing their Grand Final against Five Dock this weekend
Concord St Pats Bigs - who won their Grand Final against Concord Rosebank Bigs on Tuesday night
Concord Rosebank Bigs - who played valiantly against the aforementioned Concord St Pats Bigs on Tuesday night, finishing as Runners Up
Concord PCBL E1 -  The Mustangs are hopeful of playing Ryde Eastwood at Oakleigh Park on Saturday
Concord PCBL E2 - The Black Sox finished as Minor Premiers in their competition and are hopeful of getting in a Home Ground Grand Final against Macquarie at Majors Bay on Saturday at 2:30pm

RHBL SUPER SATURDAY DOUBLE HEADERS
The rain also didn't prevent us from hosting the RHBL Super Round in February when we had ten teams playing across five diamonds at Majors Bay in what was a fantastic gala atmosphere!
Check out our two Zooka teams having a ball and showing what great sports they all are after playing against each other!
a huge thank you to all our volunteers who worked so hard to get the fields ready despite the rain and put on a great day of baseball for the Comets and our visitors!
DR FIONA MARTIN MP VISITS THE COMETS

Another Saturday that absolutely didn't disappoint with the weather was the 29th January, when we were delighted to welcome our Federal Member of Parliament, Dr Fiona Martin, Member for Reid, for her visit to our club at Majors Bay Reserve.
Since taking up the seat of Reid in 2019 Fiona has been very supportive of our club and other sporting and community groups in our Electorate.
This was Fiona’s second visit to our club where she took the opportunity to learn more about The Comets and our sport, as well as spending time with our players, parents and club officials.
We had a good cross-section of our teams on display including our Hawkball and Zooka teams as well as teams from our two partner schools and Fiona particularly enjoyed watching our Hawkball players display their skills and enthusiasm.
It was also a great opportunity for us to discuss our future plans to upgrade our facilities and we are looking forward to Fiona’s support in helping us deliver these medium-to-long-term projects.
For those that missed the opportunity to meet Fiona we are hopeful of welcoming her back again and we will keep you updated on future visits.

As a club, our focus is, first and foremost, on development and having fun. We want our members to keep coming back to the Comets to get the most out of their time with us through learning and growing in the sport we all love. And, while we all love a win, it should never come at the expense of player safety, enjoyment or inclusivity.
We have zero-tolerance for "locker room talk", and disrespectful or disparaging comments and attitudes, either within our own teams or towards umpires, opposition teams or spectators.
We have an expectation that our Coaches and Managers uphold a positive and encouraging culture in their teams and anything less will not be tolerated or ignored.
We encourage all our members to Speak Up if they are experiencing bullying, exclusion or abuse of any kind. If a member is uncomfortable discussing an issue with their coach or manager, concerns can be addressed to our Member Protection Officer/Registrar, Alison Massey; Club President, Tony Solano; Coaching Director, Daniel Arregui; or Club Secretary/Managers Director, Marcel Andrieux.
