Loreto Highlights Update - 25th March 2022
We Remember

Frances Pou worked at Loreto for over 20 years before retiring two years ago. Past pupils will remember her fondly for her cooking classes – Rock Buns and Chocolate Cornflake Cakes were always firm favourites! Frances was a Nursery Teacher before becoming a Classroom Assistant in Year 1. Always creative, I expect some children still have a knitted chick or crochet Christmas stocking tucked away made by Frances.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Midtown Clinic
On Monday our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils attended an assembly delivered by Midtown Clinic.  Physiotherapist Jorge Espada, Osteopaths Sally Correa Debono and Ingrid McIntosh Bula, talked to the pupils about the importance of maintaining a healthy posture!
The focus was mainly on sitting, gaming, phone use, carrying back packs and sleeping.  There has been an increase in children suffering from back and neck pains in the last few years and educating children on their posture will hopefully make them more aware and prevent future issues.  This was a very informative presentation, and we thank the Midtown staff for their time.  Watch this space as we will be arranging a parents talk very soon!
First Confessions
On Tuesday, Year 3 pupils who are preparing for their First Holy Communion received their first Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The Confessions took place in the school chapel with Mgr. Bear and Mgr. Azzopardi.
Mgr. Bear reminded the pupils of the greatness of God’s love and forgiveness on this special day.

Lenten Mass
During this Lenten season, Fr Paul has celebrated Mass for our pupils. Today, on the third Friday of Lent, pupils in Year 5 and 6 attended Mass in our school chapel. In the Gospel today, Jesus speaks about our calling to recognise the ways of the Lord even at the heart of darkness, and how we should all co-operate with his divine work.

Fit 4 Life
How high does your pulse rate go when you do different types of exercise?  The Year 6 pupils were getting fit this week during their Science lessons with Mrs Garner, learning about the heart and pulse rate.
Faith Diary
The season of Lent is all about reconciliation and the famous story of the Prodigal son in today’s Gospel speaks to us of the compassion of God our loving Father, who like the father in the parable, seeks the lost and celebrates all who repent and return to Him.  We must not forget that Jesus came to save sinners. We are all sinners to a greater or lesser degree, and if we want God's forgiveness when we need it for ourselves, then we must understand that that same forgiveness will be extended to all others, no matter what they may have done.  We are all brothers and sisters in God’s family, and none of us deserves or can earn God’s freely given fatherly love.  If we cannot rejoice in one another’s blessings, no matter how seemingly undeserved, then we are allowing sibling rivalry rather than brotherly love to shape our character and our relationships.  We risk becoming like the dutiful but self-righteous older brother who sees only his own ‘worthiness’ and deeply resents his father’s extravagant welcome of the ‘unworthy’ son, instead of rejoicing with him at his brother’s safe return.

Year 1 Measuring
This week in our Numeracy lessons, we have been comparing the lengths and heights of different objects in the classroom using appropriate mathematical vocabulary.  The pupils worked in small groups, taking turns and checking each other’s answers.
Baby Tortoises In Year 4
We are all very excited to welcome two baby tortoises into Year 4.   They are approximately 6 months old and incredibly cute.  The pupils were thrilled with the new additions.  Mr Thomson gave a detailed presentation that showed us the tortoises from freshly laid eggs to their first feed.
Consecration Of Russia And Ukraine To Mary
On Friday, March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during a service in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. In today’s assembly we lifted our prayer to our Blessed Mother. We ask her that she turn her eyes of mercy towards Ukraine and Russia and that she intercede with her son to end the violence and suffering of innocent people.
Please view the link for Act of Consecration to The Immaculate Heart of Mary.
