Spring 2022 Upcoming Important Dates
|
- April 1: Last day to add or drop a Session 2 course without a petition
- April 15: Examinations and Reports completed for spring graduating students (See Graduation Calendar)
- April 22: Approved thesis and dissertation submitted and accepted for spring graduating students (See Graduation Calendar)

All Educational Studies students are invited to join Dr. Lori Patton Davis, Chair of the Department of Educational Studies, for our Chat with the Chair on Tuesday, March 29 at 4 p.m. on Zoom. This is an open forum for students to bring up any topics you would like to discuss. Our department leadership wants to make sure you have the chance to let us know how Ed Studies can best support our students. We hope you can join us!

High Days and Holidays – Muslim Perspectives “Islamic Faith: Basic Beliefs and Practices”
|
The Educational Studies Diversity Committee will be hosting this event on April 5 at noon as part of the Diversity Lecture Series. Presenters will include Dr. Sahra Ahmed and Busra Ceviren.

Summer ESL graduate-level courses for international students
|
Our ESL Program wants to make sure students are aware of two graduate-level courses for international students that ESL is offering this summer:
EDUTL 6911: Writing for Coursework
This course is designed for international and second language masters and doctoral students who need assistance with the composing and writing stages of course-related projects or papers (such as a research papers), graduate school/department requirements (such as a candidacy exam papers, concept papers, conference papers and presentations) and supporting genres (such as the statement of teaching philosophy and personal statement).
EDUTL 6913: Thesis, Proposal, & Dissertation Writing
This course is designed for non-native English speaking master’s and doctoral students who need assistance with the composing and writing stages of their thesis, proposal, or dissertation. The course consists of whole-class sessions that address general genre and rhetorical features of dissertations/proposals, as well as one-on-one tutorial sessions that address individual student needs with regard to revision of their work already in progress and/or the drafting of a new chapter or section.

EHE Students of Color Graduate Support Colloquium
|
#SoCGrad Support Colloquium is a space for @OSUEHE graduate students of color to come together and learn from EHE faculty member of color and each other. Each month, we invite a faculty host of color to speak on a topic related to graduate student experiences around research and graduate school, and department Diversity Committee chairs will be asked to help us invite the hosting faculty so that the whole college is involved. We will be certain to provide opportunities for caucus groups / small group discussions where Latinx / Black/ Native / AAPI / multi-racial students may connect with each other.

Monday, April 11 is National Pet Day and we want to celebrate all of the wonderful pets of our Ed Studies students, faculty, and staff! OUAB Grad/Prof Technical Tuesday: How to Make Good Talks Great |
Hosted by the Ohio Union Activities Board. Beyond good graphs, big fonts, and a loud voice, what makes a merely good talk truly excellent? In this talk, Dr. Todd Thompson discusses some key elements of great seminars, lectures, and colloquia taken from his experience in astrophysics research and teaching. He presents strategies for improving technical seminars, job talks, and public outreach talks, including the art of responding to questions and the trick of knowing what not to say. This talk is applicable to many STEM fields and beyond.

OUAB Grad/Prof Wellness Wednesday: Beyond Your Buzz: Navigating Your Relationship to Substance Use in Graduate School |
Hosted by the Ohio Union Activities Board. Everyone has their own relationship to alcohol and other drugs, whether you decide to use them or not. Join us as we consider how our relationships with substances may impact your graduate and professional journey. Attendees will learn how substance use can impact an individual while considering ways to create healthy and safe practices when it comes to substance use.

Hosted by the Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning. How do we develop meaningful learning environments for our students? This workshop will help participants develop strategies to support student engagement and learning and organization skill development.

OUAB Grad/Prof Quiz Night |
Hosted by the Ohio Union Activities Board. Join us as grad/prof students get together for a night of trivia and fun! Pre-arranged and impromptu-created teams compete in a night of trivia. Prizes are awarded to the top team of the evening. Check in begins at 6:30 p.m. First question begins at 7 p.m. All teams must register for each quiz night. Please visit ouab.osu.edu/grad-prof/social-engagement-programs/quiz-night for more information on how to register. Teams may include up to 50% non-student guests. Due to overwhelming popularity, registrations the day of the event may not be available. Check out the website for fuller details. The registration period for a quiz night begins at the conclusion of the previous quiz night.
