Cool Community Mural Coming Soon!

Spring is springing in Atlanta as we continue to reorganize and take steps forward on our inside renovations plan and outside electrical work prepping for better metalworking access; News on amazing partnerships and sponsorships coming soon!

This coming weekend, we're dressing up our outside with a cool and inspiring community mural! Thanks HUGE to member Elaine Stephenson, a professional artist and muralist, who has offered her skills to design and create a mural on the "windows" of the makerspace. She'll be leading the charge overseeing makers who volunteer to paint the mural this coming weekend, April 2 & 3.

Volunteer to Paint our Mural

Community Outreach...
We were honored to support students from The New School in their design and build of a prototype for their "Knowledge Closet" that will share family stories. A special thanks to our Board Member, Char Miller King, for helping the students cut their roofing materials.
We kicked off our partnership with the Maker Lab in Chawand, India with two virtual workshops. First was an Intro to 3D Printing for their youth and adult maker mentors hosted by our amazing Board VP, Maureen Haley. The second was a one-on-one workshop led by our own awesome member, Peggy Tipton, owner of Amani: Soaps, Body & Home, who shared her expertise with their local soap making mentor who supports the local soap making entrepreneurs.
What a wild collaboration! Our good friends at Wild Nest Bird Rehab wanted to build an outdoor aviary before their huge seasonal uptick in baby birds needing rehab in April. Our volunteering makers jumped right in to help out. The team made incredible progress over these past 3 weeks and look to wrap up the build project this coming weekend!  Thanks to all of the volunteers who made this happen.

What We're Learning...
A pysanky is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, "to write" or "to inscribe," as the designs are not painted on, but inscribed with beeswax. Member Diane and her friend, Diana Steele, artist and educator hosted this workshop with a lot of creative success! Look for another workshop coming soon!
Atlanta for Ukraine: humanitarian aid
Educators in our Making Spaces teacher professional development program brought their younger makers to our paper circuits workshop. They got hands-on building simple circuits with copper tape, LED lights, popsicle sticks and created a paper on/off switch for their rod puppets.

Our Family Build Nights continue monthly on the last Wednesday of each month at 5pm. Last month the young makers and their families built catapults, paper helicopters with wood launchers, and used our hot wire foam cutter to build foam targets. Don't miss our next Family Build Night on March 30!

What We're Making...
Our members have been busy making some of the things that make them happy, that they can give as gifts, and/or that solve problems. Here are a few that they've shared... #makersgonnamake

Makerspace Manager, George Breeden, used our Glowforge laser cutter to make our inclusive restroom sign.
We're sending a huge thank you to our member Sandra Mazliah who made this beautiful fairy door and sign on our Glowforge for our littlest of makers. #everyoneisamaker

Member Maureen 3D printed this cool FlexiHand in a rainbow filament. She had a successful filament change to print the bone in white.
