Rachel Rogers Correspondence

Letter from the Editor.

If you can't tell, I'm writing this on my MACBOOK AIR: A CUT ABOVE THE REST OF THEM.

I've been spending my spring break breaking down because I had cramps. TMI? Get over it.

I saw an old friend of mine. She and I have been friends for 19 years. Get yourself a 19-year friendship and build a freaking house on that. That's what life is all about.

After that, I went to the Star Antique Mall in Sellwood. I had not been there in years and all the stuff got older. Extra-antiquey.

I bought a ceramic bowl and a large pink cubic planter that looks like a Kleenex Box for someone who is 150% bigger than a normal human. I don't know what I'm going to put in it but I don't think I will be putting a plant or a Kleenex brand facial tissue.

Sometimes, it's okay to let planters be empty if they look cool enough on their own. But no one will ever see it because it will be in the bathroom in my basement that no one dares enter!!!

(Is this newsletter coming off a big aggressive to you? Don't expect it to stop).

I took a nap Sunday night and missed eating pizza at the kitchen table with my parents. Bummer, too, because we were having Schmizza. I love Schmizza.

I went to a concert Monday night. It felt weird to be near that many people. I was also there to see two artists and I only knew one song between the two of them. BUT, I had such a good time. I was, in fact, blown away by (I'll reveal the artist's name now) dodie's arrangements for strings and percussion. I got swept up in a sonic swell. And I surfed that right home by 10:30pm because that concert ended at a respectable time on a Monday night. We can't all be on spring break.

I will be going on a work-oriented spring break. I am headed to the South in a couple of weeks. Let me know if you need to contact me now because I will be pretty busy when I'm in the MINI GOLF CAPITAL OF THE WORLD: MYRTLE BEACH, SC!!!

I'm also touring Savannah, Columbia, and Charleston--so if you know and love those places, let me know what I need to see because I will have two days to soak up the sights of each city.

Gonzaga is out of the men's tournament. Gonzaga was not playing like a title-winning team, I'll tell you that. But I am so upset. And the one time we decide to strike a deal with a college basketball player too.

The only thing that is making me feel better is looking at my new antique ceramic bowl.

OMG I released music. I bet you already knew that but I am obligated per my contract to market it in my newsletter. I recorded some demos and put them on the internet. Next stop? Sonic the Hedgehog 2 world premiere in Hollywood??

I watched Legally Blonde this weekend and that movie is so good.

I also celebrated my brother's birthday by watching him and his wife run around with my niece at her soccer practice for 2 year-olds. It was as cute as you could possibly imagine.

Man, there is something else I was going to tell you but I can't even remember what it was or else, I swear, I would. I've probably said too much as it is.

Good luck on all your endeavors and may you engage all your troubles with courage and tact.

Rachel

(I just remembered what that thing was! I bought a new plant!)

(DEADLINE APPROACHING)
Earth, Wind, and More Wind?
Imagine you are lying on the beach on an 80° day and a gentle and constant breeze passes by while you take a nap. Now that's paradise. But boy howdy is wind confusing. Wind is just air moving around the planet? Sometimes it goes left or right, sometimes it goes up or down. It can go fast or it can stand completely still. Wind can create waves and weather and we are just at the mercy of air. Really makes you think.

REVIEWS

March Madness
March Madness will pick you up exactly when it says it will, take you out for a nice dinner, then throw pasta on the ground and pour frogs on the wait staff. I'm lulled in by the excitement of March Madness every year. I make little brackets in my little bracket pools and I pick teams with little numbers to beat the teams with big numbers and then nothing turns out like I want it to. No matter how much or how little I know about any of the teams, I always am bad at predicting the future. The highs are so high and the lows are so low and the Gonzaga men's team is out of the tournament and what am I supposed to do now, huh? I had them slated to win the whole thing. Just another toad on a waiter.
Encanto
Well if it isn't me talking about Bruno. That's right, I watched Disney's new-ish movie Encanto. Everyone was like, "Rachel, you need to watch this movie." And I was like, "I know." And we all know that could mean I never get around to watching something. But this time I did and even with all the hubbub and the name "Encanto," I knew nothing about this movie! I was so shocked when the story was immediately about a magical house and a magical family (not a spoiler, even though I didn't know). And (also not a spoiler because I knew this before watching) everyone is always talking about Bruno! Bruno this and Bruno that! Overall, I loved this movie and it made me tear up because it was about the miracle of family. Ugh.
Parallel Parking on the Left Side
Once in a blue moon or so I find myself on a one-way road, parallel parking on the left side of the street. It's like parking in bizarro world and I like it. I like it a lot and it is always a fun surprise to get to park on the side you drive on.
