U of T Offers Tuition and Mental Health Support for Students Affected by War in Ukraine

The University of Toronto is offering financial assistance and mental health support to students whose studies are being disrupted by the war in Ukraine. The University is also identifying ways to support students and scholars fleeing Ukraine.

Elections for 2022–23 Arts & Science Council and Standing Committees

Elections will be held on March 30–31, 2022 for undergraduate student positions on the 2022–23 Arts & Science Council and its Standing Committees. If you work with any undergraduate A&S students, please encourage them to vote in this election, so that the outcome represents the widest possible expression of student preferences. Schwartz Reisman Institute Seminar Series

This week’s SRI Seminar welcomes Professor Seth Lazar of the Australian National University to explore how the increasing mediation of algorithms throughout society might enable new kinds of human flourishing, and potentially support transformative changes to social structures that are otherwise resistant to progress. Feedback for Upcoming RFP: Online Grading Tool

U of T’s existing agreement for an online grading tool is expiring and the University must return to the marketplace as per public sector procurement practices. Members of the University of Toronto community are invited to provide feedback on these draft requirements by sending their comments via email by April 8, 2022.

University of Toronto Libraries' Patricia and Peter Shannon Wilson Undergraduate Research Prize

A&S faculty are encouraged to consider this prize as you are grading term/final papers. Six prizes of $1,000 each will be awarded to current undergraduate students enrolled at U of T during the 2021–22 academic year. Please encourage students in your courses who have demonstrated effective and innovative use of information sources in their research assignments to apply for this prize.

Deadline: April 17, 2022

A&S Tri-Council Postdoctoral Fellowship Top-Up Initiative

To attract outstanding postdoctoral fellows to the Faculty of Arts & Science, the Vice-Dean, Research portfolio provides an annual top-up to Tri-Council Postdoctoral Fellowship Awardees.

  • Eligible supervisors: Members of the A&S professoriate (St. George Campus primary budgetary appointees only)
  • Eligible Tri-Council Postdoctoral Fellowship programs: CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC postdoctoral fellowships
  • Annual top-up: $10,000 per year (up to two years for NSERC/SSHRC and up to three years for CIHR)

Consult the Program Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedure for details on securing this funding.

Research Partnership Opportunities

  • Community Partnership Research Program: Funding to help create new collaborative research partnerships, or nurture early-stage partnerships, between the University and community partners. Research funding of up to $50,000/year for up to two years. Application deadline: May 2, 2022 (submit via MRA). A&S application review deadline: April 19, 2022.
  • Mitacs Accelerate: A new curated list of Mitacs Accelerate open projects for A&S faculty members is now available. Visit the Mitacs website for a full list of open projects. A&S contact: Glaucia Lima.
