Spotlight on Research
In 2021, we welcomed Chi Chan as the newest member of our research team. A thorough and proactive search relies on excellent research, and, as a Research Associate, Chi brings his passion for equity and access to research strategy, contextualizing systems of higher education to support the development of diverse candidate pools. Chi recently co-published (with Josh Ferris) new research on how to guide and support first-generation and low-income students. Their qualitative analysis of 1,200 public and private colleges and universities led them to identify five best practices. In February we sponsored the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) Annual Conference and the NAICU (National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities) Annual Meeting and Advocacy Day.
In early March, we sponsored the ACE Women’s Network at the American Council on Education (ACE) Annual Meeting, held this year in San Diego. Invited to share brief remarks at the ACE Women’s Network reception, Managing Director Tom Fitch noted that searches led by our firm have contributed to the uptick in the proportion of women among our nation’s college and university presidents and chancellors. Inside Higher Ed recently analyzed 2020-2021 presidential hires and found that women were 35 percent of the total. When we look at our numbers at Storbeck Search, we find that women made up 53.6 percent of the new college presidents that we placed. Brava!
Next, we sponsor the MCRC@ADVIS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice & Belonging (DEIJB) Conference, a virtual program happening April 4-5 that reflects the collaborative merger of the Multicultural Resource Center and the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools.
