Upgrading your queen or kids single beds and don’t know what to do with the old ones? Starting Over Support (SOS) would love your quality queen size bed frames, single bed frames or CLEAN SINGLE mattresses for people escaping crisis.
From June, green-lidded bins in Cottesloe will change from GO (Garden Organics) to FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics). This means that Cottesloe residents can soon add kitchen scraps to their green waste to create high quality compost. Cottesloe Council will let residents know when it’s time to FOGO, so please don’t FOGO yet.
Decluttering and have items too good to throw away? Your local Buy Nothing Group is a great way to find homes for your unwanted items with minimal effort. As easy as posting a picture on your favourite social media account, you can post images of items you no longer want and wait for the requests to roll in (hint: you won’t be waiting long). Simply search for ‘Buy Nothing’ on Facebook and pick the Group closest to you.
Bin tagging suggests that plastic bags are the most common contaminant of recycling bins. Please ban the plastic bag from your recycling bin. Soft plastics contaminate recyclables and get caught in machinery, reducing what can be recycled. The good news is that plastic bags and many soft plastics can easily be REDcycled outside your local Coles and Woolies stores. Simply drop them in the collection bins when passing.
The clips that hold your favourite brews can now be recycled at the West Metro Recycling Centre. In partnership with Donut Waste, the clips are collected for reuse, commercially cleaned, then on-sold to breweries. Beer clips can be reused around 50 times before needing recycling. Collecting and reusing beer clips is a simple, energy-saving way to keep resources out of landfill.
The WA Plastics Ban starts July 1 2022. Items like plastic shopping bags, utensils, foodware, expanded polystyrene food containers and trays, cups, and balloon releases, are subject to the ban, with some exemptions. Free online info sessions and retail visits are being offered by the National Retail Association to help retailers prepare for the ban. Click to find out more or register online.
