Spring 2022 News
"Lake Ice 2"
14x18 Oil/Canvas - Available, Details Here
March, 2022
Ramah, New Mexico

Dear <<First Name>>,

It's been an odd couple of months for weather. We've had bursts of spring interspersed with periods of winter. The spring-like periods will fool you into thinking that winter is all over. As an example, Trina and I decided to go tent camping with Raku the other night when the weather was warmish. Well, it got down to 24 degrees, and we woke quite chilled. But even so, our daffodils and crocuses have already pushed up and are opening their yellow buds.

The New Book

For those of you who have ordered my new book, Beautiful Landscape Painting Outdoors: Mastering Plein Air should be arriving very soon. It will be an exciting moment when my author copies finally arrive on my doorstep! By the way, don't forget that I've interviewed most of the artists in the book, and you can get to the playlist of the videos here.  (If you haven't ordered a copy yet, you can do so at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Bring the book to a workshop or retreat, and I will happily autograph it!)

Interview and Demonstration for Eric Rhoads

Eric continues his series of interviews and demonstrations with artists. I've been asked to be his guest on Monday, March 28th. You can watch my session at his Art School Live channel here. I'll be demonstrating the proper way to paint trees.

Plein Air Convention

New Mexico, Santa Fe / May 17-20, 2022. www.PleinAirConvention.com

We are getting close to the Plein Air Convention & Expo. I'm excited because I've been scheduled to present there twice now, and each time the event has been canceled. But this year, it will actually happen! Besides demonstrating, I'll be available to sign your book! I'm also looking forward to painting with everyone the last day at some fabulous spot. Last time the event was in Santa Fe, folks painted at the historic El Rancho de las Golondrinas. I'm not sure if we'll be painting there again, but I hope so. At the convention, I'll be showing how I collect outdoor references in one medium and then switch to a different medium in the studio, plus how I create a studio painting based on these references.

Studio Sale and Exhibition This Summer

Besides leading a retreat and running a workshop in Lubec, Maine, in August (details below), I have two other projects. One is a “Pretty Much Everything Must Go” sale at my studio on Campobello Island, across the border. For personal reasons, I'm selling all of my equipment and gear and most of my supplies. I'll have more details on this as we get closer to summer. My other project is a one-man show at Lubec Landmarks. I will be packing the hall with paintings from my 15+ years in the area. Prices will be very low, so this will be an excellent time to visit Lubec and pick up enough paintings to decorate your house and to gift your family and friends for years to come. I'll have more details on this later, too, but the dates are July 21-August 10.

Now on with my workshop and painting retreats list! I should mention that right now I have lots of room in my Sedona painting retreat. Last year, we had a great time and visited some of my favorite spots I've not taken students to before. Base camp will be the Village of Oak Creek, about five miles east of Sedona proper.
