The library is the place to be this spring! Celebrate National Library Week with us from April 3rd – 9th. Take advantage of our earlier open time and get the latest releases in books, movies and music. Join us for programs at the library including storytimes, a spring break pizza party for teens, in-person Wednesday programs for adults, and more. 

Masks are no longer required for library visitors, but they will still be available at the library entry for those who wish to wear one during their visit.

We've made it to the last week of March Madness 2022 and it's time to cast your vote to see which book comes out on top.

  • Kids - Send an email to lisaj@cityofanacortes.org and let Lisa know you voted and in which category.
  • Teens and Adults - Email patriciaw@cityofanacortes.org to let her know you voted.
After the 2022 Tournament of Books winners are announced, we will choose two random prize winners for each category. Prizes are a gift card to Watermark Book Company or Pelican Books and some other literary goodies. One vote per person, each round and prizes are open to Anacortes Public Library card holders and Skagit County residents.

Covid-19 Vaccination & Booster Clinic

Need a Covid-19 vaccine time that fits your family’s schedule? Are you a senior in need of a second booster? Stop by during our clinic over spring break! The library is offering a clinic for free Covid-19 vaccinations & boosters for all eligible ages, including adults and children ages 5 and older, on Friday, April 8th. Drop in any time between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary.  

Available vaccinations will include first and second shots of the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, as well as the single first-time shots of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Booster shots of all three will be available. Thanks to Bird’s Eye Medical for providing this clinic.

Anacortes Museum Presents: The Photographers of Anacortes

Bret Lunsford and Adam Farnsworth present the Anacortes Museum’s new exhibit: The Photographers of Anacortes. The exhibit is designed to be enjoyed by in-person visitors at the Carnegie Gallery (1305 8th Street) and online through a virtual exhibit. The exhibit was designed by Corin Noronha and Will McCracken, both Anacortes High School alumni and photographers themselves.

The ABCs of LGBTQ+
PFLAG of Skagit with Randi Breuer

Join us for a discussion with Randi Breuer, member of PFLAG* Skagit to learn about our LGBTQ+ community and participate in a conversation about inclusion and support. In this introduction to the community, you will learn the meaning of sexual orientation and gender identity. Become familiar with the initials and pronouns and why they are so important. Randi will share their personal story of experience, strength and hope through coming out, facing obstacles and finding support.

 *PFLAG provides opportunities for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity. PFLAG works to create a society that is healthy and respectful of all human diversity.

Book Club at the Library

The book club meets the fourth Monday of every month. April is author month, read anything by or about Virginia Woolf. All are welcome to this volunteer-led book club. For more information call Jackie Boss at 360-202-1190.

Second Sunday Jazz: Nuages

Live at Buxton’s Music, 1904 Commercial Ave

Nuages is a performance ensemble specializing in gypsy jazz á la Django Reinhardt.  The quintet performs mostly original arrangements of jazz Manouche standards, and a diverse repertoire which draws on musical traditions from all over the world. This free concert is sponsored by the Manieri Jazz and Swing Endowment.  


 
Jazz Lecture Series: Instrumental Women of Jazz

Jazz educator Brent Jensen presents a lecture examining the historical and contemporary contributions of the instrumental women of jazz, covering important figures as Lil Hardin, Mary Lou Williams, Mary Osborne, Vi Redd, or Melba Liston.

Spring Break Drop-In Pizza Party

Let’s celebrate spring break with a gaming & pizza party!  Teens who attend can play Switch games on our big screen, try out the library’s newest STEAM Kits-- synthesizers and green screen kits for creating your own music and movies. We’ll have new books to share, giveaways, and snacks while we talk about all things library. Learn more about the library’s upcoming plans for teen programs and give us your input!

Tween Advisory Council Brainstorming Meeting
Open to all 4th and 5th graders (homeschoolers welcome!)

We’re trying something new and we need your help! We’re starting a group of 4th and 5th graders to help us plan some fun programs for the library. We’ll share some new books, games, and STEAM Kits, and there will be snacks! Space is limited and registration is required. We’ll decide on a monthly meeting time, too. Sign up in the here.
