Dear Holy Cross Families,

With the arrival of Spring, we have been blessed not only with many sunny days but also with the arrival of new opportunities for our students.  For example, many girls in third through fifth grade signed up for “Girls on the Run” and are now enjoying time together outside after school, participating in programming that strengthens their social, emotional, physical and behavioral skills.  Fourth through sixth grade students also recently wrapped up three weeks of wiffle ball fun and now our JV baseball team is holding regular practices across the street after school.  It has been life-giving to see so many students enjoying the great weather, learning how to work together as a team, and cheering each other on.  Similarly, Notre Dame’s BandLink program recently started again and we now have students in 4th-8th grade learning to play a variety of instruments with mentors from Notre Dame’s marching band.  Our 7th graders will also visit St. Joseph High School tomorrow and are excited to learn more about the many opportunities that await them in high school.

During these last few months of school, we would love to start brainstorming ways in which we can slowly and safely bring Holy Cross families back together again.  Due to many COVID restrictions that have been in place for the past few years, we realized that many families, especially in our youngest grades, have not had many opportunities to get to know one another.  Many parents have started asking, “How can I get involved?”  “Are there opportunities for me to volunteer or simply get to know my child’s friends?”  If you are a parent that would appreciate the opportunity to help out with an event or simply help brainstorm ideas for family engagement, please fill out this brief google form with your contact information.

Have a great week!

Queridas familias,

April 4th-8th Spring Break

Bishop Rhoades has approved the appointment of Father Tom Zurcher, C.S.C., as our new associate pastor… Father Tom will be joining us as a part-time associate pastor while continuing to live at Fatima House on the Notre Dame campus… Father Tom’s priestly ministry over the years has been in three areas. Along with Holy Cross Parish, he was engaged in parish ministry at St. Patrick’s Parish here in South Bend and at St. John Vianney Parish in Goodyear, Arizona. He has also been involved in formation ministry, with our Holy Cross men in formation at Moreau Seminary at Notre Dame and our formation program in Mexico, as well as with priests as Vicar for Priests in the Diocese of Phoenix.

He has also done cross cultural ministry here in the United States and in Mexico. He is especially looking forward to the pastoral, sacramental and liturgical ministry here at Holy Cross Parish, including visiting our sick and homebound, engaging our school students, and the other ministries and responsibilities he will have as a part-time associate pastor. Please remember Father Tom in your prayer as he prepares for his new assignment here at Holy Cross.
