Hello Pemetic Families,

What a Spirit Week we had! Students and staff all participated in it and the outfits were so much fun! Keep up the school spirit!

The flu, digestive issues, and colds are running rampant through the school. Please keep your child at home if they are feeling ill. Please feel free to call Nurse Brittany if you have any questions or concerns. As to Covid, we will continue to follow the CDC recommendations in order to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Snacks: Middle school parents…the middle schoolers are hungry ( as they eat lunch early in the day )  and tend to lose steam towards the end of the day. If you would like to send some snacks for your student to keep in their lockers for an afternoon “ pick me up” that would be great. I have spoken to Reiley in the kitchen, who will also send up some afternoon snacks for the 6-8th graders.

Fun Friday: This Friday is “ Business Attire Day”  (Thank you Ms. Raven’s class for this choice!) Wear what the professionals in a specific job would wear! This is an opportunity for a little bit of fun school wide for students and staff.

Parent/ Teacher Conferences: March 28th-April 1st. Please click the link to register. If you cannot find your teacher please check back as the system updates itself.

The Learning Lab is up and running! Monday-Friday from 7:30-8:00 am in Kim Schroeder’s room. Any students grades 4-8 needing extra help are welcome to attend. They just need to come in the front door and sign in.

I believe dismissal is working much better. Thank you all for your cooperation. I ask that parents be patient as we dismiss our buses first, then parent pick up and then walkers and Harbor House. I ask that you do not park where the cones are so that the buses can safely leave.

COVID protocols: We follow the guidelines set by the district, as we are all in this together. If things change, as soon as we know, we will get that information out to parents and students.  If you are not in pool testing, but would like to be, please reach out to Nurse Brittany.

My door is always open to parents, staff and students for whatever they may need. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Have a great week,

2022 MDI Girls Basketball Skills Academy is designed to help players from 5th- 8th grade improve their individual skills, attitude and knowledge of the game.  The program stresses fundamentals and gives individuals the tools to achieve their full potential. We want to help your child develop the skills you actually need to play at the next level and improve their fundamental basketball skills and strategies. Our goal is to develop five foundational skills: ball control, shooting, passing, vision, and movement. We want to improve athleticism, coordination and learn the “intangibles” that all good players possess.. Make layups against contact. Improve shooting form and accuracy. Have fun while learning new skills.

Coach Brent Barker and his staff and players provides the individual and small group instruction.

MDI Girls Basketball Skills Academy will have three separate sessions that will take place beginning in March. Athletes are eligible to come for the session that fits their specific schedule the best. Athletes will be broken up by grade and skill, and will be split on court A and court B according to those age groups and skill levels. Dates we will run these session are March 1,8,15. All session go from 3:30-5:00 at MDIHS. We will combine 1 ½ hour intensive skill development with some small sided live game competition to apply the learned skills. Our focus will primarily be on skills and fundamentals.

If you have any question or would like to sign up please email Coach Barker at brentbarker@mdirss.org.
Can’t wait to see you on the court.

Please remember to let the office know if your child(ren) will be absent, tardy or dismissed early. When calling the school, please call 207-244-5502.  If you have a new telephone number, could you let us know so that we can update our files. Thank you!

Hi Families,

Thank you all for the awesome communication these past few weeks.  It truly helps being updated with any health changes and is much appreciated. Anyone who is COVID positive is required to quarantine for a full 5 days.  The superintendent has made it a requirement for all AOS 91 schools that a negative test administered by the school nurse is required in order to return to school.  This test will be given on day 6.  If the student is negative, then he/she can return to school.  If the student is still positive, then the full 10 day quarantine is required without the option of testing out of quarantine.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding during all these changes.

-Brittany, School Nurse

Watch your child's backpack for the coupon.

In correlation with the other schools in the district and guidance from Mr. Z regarding weather and outside recess, if the weather is less than 10 degrees, with windchill, children will NOT be going outside for recess.

Children in grades K-3 must be appropriately dressed in order to go outside in cold weather.  If the teacher decides a student is not, the student must stay inside. There will be an adult to supervise during this time. Grade 4-8 students will all be going outside regardless so they need to be prepared.

It would be very helpful if you sent an extra set of mittens and an extra hat for your child to store in your child’s locker just in case.  Because of COVID, we do not have extra hats and mittens to give out to students this year.

Please be aware that the menus are planned ahead, but like everywhere, there are unexpected shortages and supply issues that interfere with best laid plans.

We appreciate your understanding that meals may unexpectedly change and apologize for any inconvenience.

Maybe during these uncertain times, packing some extra, healthy snacks may help with an unanticipated change in lunch.
