Volume 8|  25 March 2022| Roll Number 622|  Week 8 Term 1

Kia ora koutou

With the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding numbers that gather indoors and outside, we, at QPS, are so pleased to welcome you all back on our site from Monday 28 March. I would like to thank you all for following our previous guidelines in an effort to mitigate health and safety risks. It has been a really tough few months for many of us in  Queenstown and QPS students and families have been affected and infected by COVID more than we would have liked. You have all rallied with us in an effort to maintain some kind of ‘normal’ and this has been much appreciated by us all. Please look out for information regarding school events and activities approaching so that you can join us. I would recommend you wear a mask if visiting a classroom, however, masks are not required outside. Please remember to sign in and out beside Room 1 until further notice.

An appointments panel consisting of Debbie Hutton (Board member), Katie Hart (Staff member on the Board), Matt Leach (DP) and myself interviewed 4 candidates for the Deputy Principal position last week. I am delighted to announce that Mrs Justine Lock (acting DP) has been appointed as our new Deputy Principal, replacing Mr Darryn Rae. We congratulate Justine wholeheartedly on this achievement and promotion.

Last week my eldest daughter was married in Auckland at Kumeu Valley Estate and it was my absolute privilege to walk her down the aisle. I have shared a couple of photos with you as I can’t seem to stop showing off. It was a very special day for the family.

Have a fabulous weekend in paradise!

Take care and keep safe.

AWESOME ART!

Q.P.S Artists have been busy and many have submitted their work in the Art Centre Exhibition.
We are very proud of them all.
Hinato, Rudrakshi, Flynn and Archie, some of our QPS artists, were honoured on Thursday at the opening of the Tahuna Mural.
It showcases the biodiversity and creative talent of our area and is well worth a slow, up close walk to take in the fine details.
It was a treat to work with Ronnie, a local artist and Jo Smith from Wakatipu Reforestation Trust.
Watch out for these Future Creative Geniuses!

As part of developing our House spirit and promoting physical activity and wellbeing, students have the opportunity to be involved in regular Lunchtime Sports activities at QPS. We run 'Have a Go' days for specific sports for students to participate in and also House Sport competitions for students to compete against other Houses. We have also implemented Staff and Student sports where we all play a sport together which are lots of fun!

Here are our recent trophy winners for House Sports:

Y5/6 HOUSE BENCHBALL- WINNERS-KAWARAU

Holding the trophy are Tiara and Raphael
Y5-8 HOUSE SOCCER -WINNERS-RATA
Holding the trophy are Geneva, Annette, Benji and Eliott.

World Maths Day

On Wednesday we celebrated 'World Maths Day' at QPS by completing some fun and interesting Maths activities within our teams.

Yr 1 had fun working with shapes.

Yr 2 had a scavenger hunt and designed shape monsters.

Yr 3/4 have been learning the names and attributes of different 3-dimensional shapes. We used nets to create these shapes and built our own world called 'Geometry City'.

Yr 5/6 had a Maths Quiz based around Bikes and Garden to Table. The students ran between the classes solving problems and received stamps on their 'Maths Passports' for their hard work.

Yr 7/8 completed a Maths problem-solving competition. Houses made as many teams of four as possible and had to solve increasingly difficult problems, earning points for each correct problem. Each problem had to be solved before advancing to the next one.

Slow Down Near School Buses

A reminder to parents/caregivers to take extra care around school bus stops. Please park on the same side as the bus stop wherever possible. But if you do need to park on the opposite side, cross to your children first instead of having them cross to you. Please never call to your child from the other side of the road – yes it does happen - and it can put children in great danger!

Parents please remember that the maximum speed when passing a stationary school bus stopped to pick up or drop off children is 20km/h regardless of which side the bus is on.  Please take extra care around school bus stops and provide supervision for children needing to cross.
