Updated Distance Selling Guidance Published by GPhC

The GPhC has updated its guidance for pharmacies providing services at a distance, including over the internet. Whilst we don’t have many distance selling pharmacies in Lincolnshire, it is important to note that the guidance covers all services provided at a distance, including the safe management of delivery services. This is the press release announcing the update: Updated guidance for pharmacies providing services at a distance, including on the internet | General Pharmaceutical Council (pharmacyregulation.org)

GPhC temporary register to close on 30 September 2022

The Government has announced that its intention is for the healthcare professions temporary registers, including the GPhC temporary register, to close on 30 September 2022

The GPhC temporary register was set up after the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care asked us to use our emergency powers in order to rapidly register pharmacy professionals to assist in the national response to the COVID-19 emergency.

The temporary register includes pharmacy professionals who had voluntarily removed themselves or were removed for non-renewal from the GPhC register in the last three years and did not have Fitness to Practise issues. It enabled an extra 6000 pharmacy professionals to be eligible to practise in Great Britain to support patients and the public during the pandemic.

Now the government has announced that the healthcare professions temporary registers are expected to close on 30 September 2022.

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who are on the temporary register are invited to consider applying to re-join the main GPhC register if they want to continue practising after the end of September.
