DUT IS THE FIRST IN AFRICA TO DEVELOP TECHNOLOGY FOR THE LARGE-SCALE APPLICATION FOR PRODUCING BIOFUELS FROM MICROALGAE GROWN ON WASTEWATER
The development of a cost-effective process for the production of biofuels from microalgae as a step towards commercialisation for the renewable energy industry was the focal point of the SATREPS “Production of biofuels from algae biomass” Technology Transfer hybrid workshop, which was held at the Protea Hotel by Marriot Karridene Beach, last Thursday, 17 March 2022.
The hybrid workshop was hosted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology (IWWT), which is under the helm of IWWT’s Director, Prof Faizal Bux, at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).
DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS’ PROFESSOR MEGANDHREN GOVENDER OBTAINS A C2 NRF RATING
Professor Megandhren Govender of the Faculty of Applied Science at the Durban University of Technology recently obtained a C2 National Research Foundation (NRF) Rating.
Prof Govender’s role includes; teaching of mathematics, research, community outreach and being involved in the larger University community, where he serves on various University committees. He has been in this role from 2016. He is also an Honorary Professor in the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, University of KwaZulu-Natal.

This prestigious event was made possible by DUT in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Government, led by the KZN Premier, Mr Sihle Zikalala and the University of South Africa (Unisa).

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT and which campus you are based at?
A: “I am currently working as a Secretary at the Department of Nursing at the Indumiso Campus. I make sure that students and staff members within our department are assisted with all they need.”
