This Week's Torah Portion
Sh’mini (The Eighth [Day]) שְׁמִינִי

On the eighth day Moses called Aaron and his sons, and the elders of Israel. – Leviticus 9:1

Aaron and his sons follow Moses' instructions and offer sacrifices so that God will forgive the people. (9:1-24)
Two of Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu, offer "alien fire" to God. God punishes these two priests by killing them immediately. (10:1-3)
God forbids Moses, Aaron, and his surviving sons from mourning but commands the rest of the people to do so. Priests are told not to drink alcohol before entering the sacred Tabernacle and are further instructed about making sacrifices. (10:4-20)
Laws are given to distinguish between pure and impure animals, birds, fish, and insects. (11:1-47)

BEIT EMANUEL MATTERS

Happening this Shabbat

Music Circle

The Music Circle will meet at 17h15 in the Courtyard this Friday. Please see the insert below for details.

Hybrid on Steroids

As I write, the team from Lampro Event Solutions are installing our new audio visual (AV) equipment in the Shul. We’ll be using the new kit for the first time in the Shabbat Evening Service this Friday. It may take us a while to get the hang of things, but stick around for Beit Emanuel’s Hybrid Services on Steroids, coming soon to a monitor near you. Thanks again to Gordon Schachat and family for the generous donation that made this possible.

Baer Baby-Naming

This Friday evening will also see the Baby-Naming for Lily-Marie Baer. Thanks to Simon and Yvonne Baer for generously sponsoring our Brocha this Friday evening.

Pesach Communal Seder

Erev Pesach is on Friday, 15 April this year, so please pencil in our Communal Seder for the evening of the 15th (the start of the long weekend). We hope to have the menu and pricing out early next week, following which we’ll open for bookings. We will try to contain costs as far as possible, but I’m sure you’re all aware of how totally out of hand food costs have become.

Youth Communal Roundtable Meeting

Please join us for a communal roundtable meeting regarding the role and possibilities of the youth in our community. We’ll review the progress made so far and ask for your vision and advice. This meeting is an extension of  our ongoing communal discussion regarding our future.
The invitation is extended to the youth and their parents, to alumni of youth movements/Temple Youth groups, to professionals in the realms of education and youth work, and to all involved congregants.

Saturday, 9 April, 12h00 to 14h00 in the Gillis Boardroom and on Zoom here: https://beiteman.link/youth
