The next World BioEconomy Roundtable will take place on 7 April, 2022 starting at 15:00 CET. This roundtable focuses on the first session, "The Bioeconomy: People, Planet, Policies" where a follow-up and discussions on the developments of recent national and regional Biostrategies and Bioinitiatives will be the center of this roundtable.

Insightful dialogue to be expected from our prestigious speakers, including:
  • Ignasi Galindo, Responsible for External Relations, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, Government of Catalonia
  • Marisa Silva, Advisor to the Minister of Environment and Climate Action, Portugal
  • Camille Bemerguy, Director of Climate Change, Environmental Services and Bioeconomy at the Pará Environment and Sustainability Secretariat, Brazil
  • Julius Ecuru, Programme Manager at BioInnovate Africa
  • Dr. Jorge Cano, Coordinator of the implementation of the Mission de Sabios' Recommendations at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Colombia

Introducing the Roundtable Panellists
Ignasi Galindo
Ignasi Galindo has had over 29 years of professional experience in the industry and currently holds a position in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food. He is responsible for external relations and responsible for the coordination of all the projects financed through European Programmes.

His professional experience always entailed the public administration, mostly in the field of environment, forest management and protected areas management, with increasing responsibilities.
Marisa Silva

Marisa Lameiras da Silva is an advisor to the Portuguese Minister for the Environment and Climate Action, and she is responsible for the coordination of the national action plan for a sustainable bioeconomy. In her previous role she was an advisor to the Portuguese Minister of the Sea responsible for the Sustainable Ocean Economy. 

She has held multiple roles including Environmental Consulting, Environmental Compliance Specialist, Senior Project Management (strategic national environmental projects), among others.

Dr. Jorge Cano
Dr. Jorge Cano is a Chemical engineer and International Marketing Specialist. In the private sector, Mr. Cano holds various positions in Colombia, UK and Venezuela in the field of chemical specialties and reagents for in vitro diagnosis in companies such as Rohm and Haas, Clariant, Andercol and OpGen. 

Since July 2020 he has been an advisor to the Vice Ministry of Talent and Social Appropriation of Knowledge, in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, with the challenge of promoting the implementation of the recommendations of the International Commission of Experts 2019. 

In this role he has been co-leading the implementation of the Missions "Bioeconomy for a living and Diverse Colombia: towards a Knowledge-Driven Society", and "Colombia towards a New Productive, Sustainable and Competitive Model."
 
Camille Bemerguy
Camille Bemerguy has had extensive professional experience as a professor, researcher and consultant for national and international organizations on issues of poverty and inequality.

She has worked for 25 years on inclusive social policies and sustainable finance in Brazil and Africa. Today, she serves as Director of Climate Change, Environmental Services and Bioeconomy at the Pará Environment and Sustainability Secretariat.
Julius Ecuru

Julius Ecuru, is the Program Manager, BioInnovate Africa, a regional science and innovoation-driven initiative at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe). Julius works on issues related to technological innovation and sustainable industrialization. He focuses is on the theory and practice of technological innovation systems for health care delivery, food systems, clean water and energy.

Julius also contributes to scholarly works in the chemical and bioengineering sciences and supports regulatory science and research ethics capacity development.
