Hi Everyone;

We received the following message through our website:

Your Name: Richard Ernst

Subject: Instructors needed

Message: We are establishing an academy where people can learn self-improvement talents. We have already set up furniture restoration, cabinet refinishing, and painting. Our current instructors are professionals in their trades. We would like to add other courses of instruction and have an interest in adding woodturning. We are seeking people who have the talent, time, and interest to instruct. This is a compensated position between $30-$50 per hour. Please contact me if you can assist.

I requested more information from Richard in the form of several questions, and received the following response:

1. Where would the instruction take place? Does the facility have several wood lathes for students to use? Is there dust control equipment available? We are working with Kettle Moraine High School in Wales, WI. We are setting up to use the school woodshop. This is a complete facility to do woodworking. But we will NOT be using their equipment, other than the dust collection system and spray booth. We will be purchasing our lathes for training purposes. We would work with the instructor to select the correct one, along with all the tools needed for the demonstration. This is at our expense.

2. Do you expect the instructor to teach general theory or to teach to the completion of a project? If a project, what sort of a project(s) do you expect to have completed? Both, we would again work with the instructor to offer three options for the student. 1) General theory and operation, which we envision being a two-hour course. 2) Project completion-which would be a four-hour course 3) Detailed instruction-a full day or 8-hour course. This concept would be worked (out) in detail with the instructor. They would be determining the curriculum and timeline. We would like to do smaller items such as pens, small bowls, stoppers, etc. Again, we have to rely on the instructor.

3. How long (how many sessions) do you foresee the class being? How long is one session expected to last? Answered above.

4. Tooling - are students expected to provide their own tooling? I'm speaking here of hand tools. (Chisels, gouges, parting tools, etc.) We would provide hearing and eye protection. We also would provide all tooling. Classes would be held between the hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. This would be determined by the count of students signed up for a class. The high school students attending are offered the program at no charge.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please reply to me (Tony Rozendaal) as I would like to coordinate the club's response to Richard.

Regards;
Tony Rozendaal
