Ir Tzedek: Pursuing a Just City through Community Organizing is a 4-week workshop series on zoom starting March 15th (taking place over four Tuesdays evenings from 7pm-8:30pm) with two subsequent in-person meetings. We will learn about the basics of community organizing through a lens of Jewish theology, Jewish organizing, and Jewish identity. We will cover: What is organizing? How do we organize to shift power to those in our community who are most impacted by oppression, and how can we build the skills necessary? We will also learn about how Faith in Action Bay Area organizes in San Mateo County and San Francisco through a model that is centered on building relationships across lines of difference.

This workshop series is intended for exploration and connection among Jewish congregants and community groups in San Mateo County and San Francisco who may have some economic security and/or racial privilege, and who wish to learn about participating in a cross-class, multi-racial, multi-lingual organization that is led by those who are impacted by injustice. We are excited to pilot a curriculum that centers Jewish learning, history, values, and theology. When you sign up, we ask that you commit to attending all of the sessions, or at the very minimum 4 of the 6 sessions, as the sessions build on one another. We invite everyone who is open to learning about organizing, and will provide subsequent opportunities to get involved with Faith in Action Bay Area for those who are interested.

To express interest or sign up, please fill out our interest form.

If you have questions, please reach out to Nani Friedman, community organizer at Faith in Action Bay Area (nani@faithinactionba.org) or Avital Raff, community organizer at The Kitchen (avital@thekitchensf.org).

Action to Preserve Our Homes
Monday, March 21, 5:00 p.m.
400 County Center, Redwood City
Eviction protections and rent relief are ending on March 31, but the pandemic and its impacts are not over. Our community has been financially devastated. Our hours remain unstable and our wages do not match increased living costs or workloads. Join us to support a just recovery and to keep our homes!

Join us at this rally that takes placed before the County Board of Supervisors meeting. Your presence is needed, along with others from your congregation, schools, and networks.
CALL TODAY to Keep Families Home!
We invite you to take a moment and call our state legislators and urge them to extend protections against evictions, allow rent relief applications to be submitted past March, and to deliver on their commitment to fully fund debt relief for all tenants who are struggling due to COVID-related loss of work and/or wages.

You can call today using this tool. At the state level, we are calling Governor Newsom, Assemblymember and Speaker Rendon, and President of the State Senate Atkins. Every extension of an eviction moratorium passed thus far has been negotiated among these three lawmakers, behind closed doors and at the last minute. Please remind them that the security of hundreds of thousands of families in California is at stake.
