REVISED Meeting Minutes

Edits:

  • Add-Care Op Shop – Norm Symes
Written report tabled and presented by Norm Symes. Noted that the Op Shop is transferring to our church account $33,764.41 from our profits in 2021.

  • Building Committee – Norm Symes
Report tabled and presented by Norm Symes.
The South Qld Conference, Union Conference and South Pacific Division have approved the building project, however the SQC has not finalised the Westpac Bank application for the $900,000 bank bill loan. The cost of the building has increased by $203,000 due to 6 months having passed since the last builders quote, relating to the rise in building materials.
Discussions between Norm Symes and the SQC has resulted in an offer from the SQC to increase its grant toward the project from $100,000 to $150,000, and since it's too late to obtain a revised bank loan, the SQC will loan $150,000 to our church to make up the shortfall. We are requesting that the SQC loan of $150,000 be made interest-free.

Karen Collum shared about the uniqueness of our inter-generational church and how the need has increased for our church to make room for families. We are a church passionate about loving people well, which starts with loving families. God also calls us to ‘dream big’ because if we could do this on our own, what would we need God for? Creating space will lead to growth. Visitors tend to stop coming if rooms get beyond 80% full.
Chantelle Pratt shared about the 2021 Kids Connect classroom capacity and attendance history.
Norm Symes tabled and presented the Proposed Floor Plan for the Building Project. The new build will have a focus on child safety in both the toilet and room design, which includes a specific check-in area for children.

  • MOTION: To proceed with the Building Project. Vote: 32 “YES”, 1 “ABSTAIN”, NIL “NO”.
  • MOTION: To empower the Treasurer to confirm the loan structure in writing to the Conference – moved, seconded, carried. Nil opposition.
