Making the 6th District Great Again!

Dear Friends and Fellow Republicans

Democrats Want Us To Suffer

Republicans got a lot done in their 1st term back in power in Richmond.

And from the 6th Congressional District, we have so many things to celebrate this legislative session.
1st and foremost, we have Speaker Todd Gilbert, who has done everything he can to shepherd through the Youngkin agenda of pro tax cuts, pro law enforcement, pro family.  We have 6th District legislators in positions of great influence.  Delegate Terry Austin is the Chair of Transportation in Virginia and is working diligently on I-81 funding.  Chris Runion is the Chair of the Conservative Caucus.  Senator Mark Obenshain did an amazing job getting good judges such as Chris Collins and Ken Alger approved.

Different delegates got different things passed.  John Avoli  got through a resolution condemning China for their persecution of Falun Gong.  Mark Obenshain got passed SB 227, making it easier for prosecutors to convict pedophiles.  Delegate Bill Wiley got through a bill making it easier to preserve Valley Battlefield space.  Delegate Joe McNamara got passed HB 90, a major part of the Youngkin agenda, the elimination of the tax on groceries.   Delegate Tony Wilt got passed the 1st bill ever signed by Go vernor Youngkin, a bill to help farmers.  There are too many to list – but you get the basic idea.

However – if the District were to give out an award for being Legislator of the Year, it would go to Senator Dave Suetterlein of Roanoke, who got passed SB 3, SB 4,and SB 5.

SB (Senate Bill) 3 requires that absentee ballots and their numbers be counted the night of the election.  The numbers of absentee votes is the key here.  That way the Democrats can’t come up with thousands  of votes in the middle of the night like they did in 2020.

SB 4, would limit an Emergency by the Governor to only last 45 days.  And then any extension of an emergency by the Governor must be approved by both houses of the General Assembly.  This would take away many of the dictatorial powers that former Governor Northam used against us in 2020/2021.

SB 5, would require that all votes of each member of the Parole Board be made public according to the Freedom of Information Act.  Aka if the Parole Board (assuming it ever is reconstituted) wants to free a violent felon, the Parole Board can’t hide their votes in secret – their individual votes will be public for all to see.

What makes all these things so important is that Democrats hold a 21-19 advantage in the Senate, so for Senator Suetterlein to get these important pieces of legislation through, it’s a testament to how effective he is.   This also shows that Democrats can on the odd occasion read tea leaves, and know their constituents are sick of mask mandates, tyranny of one man using a pandemic to store up unprecedented powers, and that  criminals must be punished.

In future issues I’ll be posting more about what each of our Richmond legislators did and were able to get through.

Thank you for allowing me to serve you as your Chair.  Our work continues

I remain

your servant
