Dear SYVJC,
 
On Saturday eve, April 16th, millions of Jews living in the Diaspora will be celebrating the second seder of Passover. As a community, we will read the Passover liturgy, the Haggadah, eat and drink symbolic foods to remember what our ancestors experienced. We “enjoy” matzo which recalls our oppression and our escape before the bread could fully rise; horseradish to recall the bitterness of slavery; sweet charoset to remind us of the mortar we used as Pharoah’s slaves, dip parsley in salt water to replicate the tears shed by our forebears and all as we sing and pray together as one people.
 
We read on Pesach, “In every generation each person is obligated to see themselves as though they too came out of Egypt.” For two years we have been enslaved in our homes by Covid, celebrating via technology. Today we have (hopefully) broken free of the pandemic’s bonds, and we can tell our story in freedom and in person.
 
Come and celebrate as a community even as we shed tears and fears for our brethren in the Ukraine and the Uyghur minority in Northern China. Let’s come together and share our common story and pray for a more peaceful future.
 
PREPAID Reservations BY APRIL 8TH are required as is proof of vaccination (If you have already shared your vaccination status with Shoshanah, there is no need to replicate that effort).
 
Details:
  • Saturday, April 16th @ 6 pm (location will be given when reservations made)
  • Adults 13 and older: $36
  • Children 5 – 12: $18
  • Children under 5 are free but be sure to count them in your numbers so we have a seat ready
  • You may purchase tickets online thru the SYVJC website or
You may alternately email Shoshanah at susanmori2@aol.com the details and send a check payable to SYVJC and mailed to P.O. Box 135, Los Olivos 93441. PLEASE don’t hit reply to this email, which will send your message to the SYVJC email, not to Shoshanah
 
However, you choose to pay, Shoshanah needs to know the following:
  1. Full names for name tags & table assignments; this should include kids under 5,
  2. Anyone special with whom you would like to sit
  3. If you would like to bring a favorite wine for your table; SYVJC will provide “standard Seder wine” and grape juice for the Seder
 
Security will be provided.

Reservations Due by April 8th

Our wonderful Passover Seder is coming on April 16th. It will be led by Rabbi Debi, and the board is looking forward to having you join us for a wonderful Second Night experience.

This is a major event in our calendar, and we need helpers 
1.    to go shopping
2.    to help set up, starting at 4 pm on the night of the Seder
3.    to help clean up afterwards 

Please let me know if you can assist in any of the above, or in some other way. Finally, don’t forget to send in your RSVPs and payments by April 8th – please see Susie’s article for details.

This is a catered dinner. Last minute changes play havoc with the caterer’s preparations, so NO tickets will be sold after the April 8th deadline.

He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with us and will engage us with an interactive power point discussion.....this information could “Literally” save your life! Please join us!!

Dear Community,

As the weather shows us, Spring is approaching and that means one of our most important holidays will be upon us soon – Passover (Pesach). It is our story of redemption and freedom; qualities we want all people, no matter their religion or ethnicity to enjoy.

We will again have our traditional 2nd night Seder under the auspices of our wonderful Rabbi Debi. Though a serious occasion, it can be filled with humor and delight. Bring your your children, your elders, your friends to celebrate together as we Gd willing exit our two years of Covid solitude.

Yes, we escaped Egypt, but horrific acts of anti-Semitism are increasing across the country and security at all major functions is now required. To that end, the Safety and Security Committee has arranged a crucial safety training for ALL MEMBERS and interested persons of the Santa Ynez Valley Jewish Community and St. Mark’s. Details are below:

Jewish Free Loan has recently expanded its service area to include Santa Barbara County, offering 0%, interest, no fee personal/emergency loans to those who need assistance. Loans can be used for rent, moving expenses, medical or dental bills, car repair, childcare, debt consolidation and more. Applicants must have a steady income.
