ARC POWER Initiative Awards ~$21 Million to 21 Projects
Today, ARC awarded nearly $21 million for 21 projects impacting 211 counties through our POWER (Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization) Initiative.

This brought ARC to a grand investment total of $316.6 million in 393 projects across 358 coal-impacted Appalachian counties since POWER launched in 2015.

For the announcement, ARC partnered with Youngstown Business Incubator to host a discussion of new and seasoned POWER grantees at America Makes
"The Appalachian Region has the ability, skillset, and character of people to compete at a global level," said ARC's Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin. "That's what this is about today- creating jobs and attracting diversification throughout the region."

Youngstown Business Incubator: Elevating Entrepreneurship
  • Location: Youngstown, Ohio
  •  
  • Community Need: Appalachia's economy continues to lag behind national indicators, with many small business struggling to remain viable due to worker shortages and supply chain disruption.
  •  
  • Solution: The “Lake to River Small Business Success” project will help Small to Medium Enterprises access capital, develop business plans, adopt advanced technologies to enhance operations, and more.
  •  
  • Grants Received: $1.35 million though an ARC POWER grant 
  •  
  • Outcomes: YBI is expanding their support services to seven counties in Northeastern Ohio, developing successful digital businesses, strengthening women and minority entrepreneurship, and further advancing manufacturing technologies.

Our Federal Co-Chair met with DRA Alternate Federal Co-Chair Leslie Durham and Southern Crescent Regional Commission FCC Jennifer Clyburn Reed, marking the first time three women have held Presidential-appointed leadership positions for US regional commissions!

Summer Learning Opportunities Applications Due Tomorrow
ARC has extended the application deadline for two summer opportunities: the Appalachian STEM Academy at Oak Ridge and the Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy (AEA), held at Appalachian State University. Both programs, planned for Summer 2022, are free intensive learning experiences specifically for the Region’s high school and/or middle school students and teachers.

Applications for both opportunities are due tomorrow, March 18, 2022.
INSPIRE Initiative Accepting Proposals From Recovery-to-Work Programs
ARC has issued a Request for Proposals for our INvestments Supporting Partnerships in Recovery Ecosystems (INSPIRE) Initiative. This year, ARC is investing $10 million in recovery-to-work efforts in Appalachia.

Final applications are due March 24, 2022
POWER Initiative Accepting Proposals From Appalachian Coal Communities
ARC has issued a Request for Proposals for our POWER (Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization) Initiative, helping to economically diversify coal-impacted communities.

This year, ARC is investing ~$25 million in projects building entrepreneurship, broadband, workforce development, tourism, and more.

Letters of Intent are due April 4, 2022 by 5 pm ET and final applications are due by April 29, 2022
