Renewing Our Community and the Earth

Roberti Community House finds ways every day of the year for a brighter, greener, and cleaner planet. Even though upcycling is a new, trendy term these days, Roberti Community House has been doing this important work at the grass-roots level for years. We are proud to continually renew our community through food, fun and friendship.
 Beautiful New Products

Thankfully, Christina Lucas with Lucid Collections LLC no longer throws away fabric remnants that would end up in the landfill. Instead, they donate the fabric to our vibrant sewing group to work their magic. This creative group turns the recovered fabric into lovely aprons, reusable bags, and much more. The discarded and unwanted become beautiful and useful. Another perfect example of up-cycling! As an important side benefit, our reusable bags reduce plastic bag waste.

These new products are then donated for use to veterans, homeless, and others walking and picking up at the food pantry.

What do you think these are made of? One of our RCP employees also recovers unused tires and repurposes them into beautiful outdoor planters.

Food Reimagined

The US wastes a shocking amount of food, roughly 40 percent. Food is lost or wasted for a variety of reasons, from the farm to the store to the restaurant to our very own home kitchens, where each household, maybe even yours, is throwing away around 21 percent of the food it buys.

RCH picks up food from various organizations that would otherwise go to waste. Our creative Roberti Culinary Pathway makes fruit and vegetable smoothies and doesn't stop there. The leftover fruit pulp is used to make jams so that nothing goes to waste. A perfect example of upcycling!

  • Surplus food is also turned into delicious soups and meals that can be frozen and distributed later.
  • Food boxes - We combine rescued and donated items of produce, bread, and proteins and distribute out to those identified as experiencing food scarcity. We always add homemade meals prepared in the culinary kitchen.

Thank you to Imperfect Foods, Project 22:9, Panera Bread, and other forward-thinking organizations who share our goal to reduce waste!
