What does water conservation have to do with saving the Granite Dells or the Granite Dells Regional Park & Preserve?
Everything! Water fills our rivers, lakes, and reservoirs for recreation, sustains wildlife and valuable riparian landscapes like the Granite Creek corridor, and connects us to the Verde River—our common life thread throughout all of the Yavapai County region.
Water keeps us alive, flows through our communities, and fills up our glasses. It’s the limiting factor for new growth and development. Water is essential to every aspect of life. As our most precious resource, a secure water future is imperative to a secure community future for Prescott and the Quad Cities area for generations to come.
Because of this, water conservation and responsible water management were identified as one of Save the Dells' expanded priorities in 2021. In 2022 we want to continue to focus on water, supporting and amplifying the important work done by groups like the Citizens Water Advocacy Group to ensure that our local leadership can make informed, responsible decisions regarding our water future.

Join Friends of the Verde in person at Dead Horse Ranch State Park, plus guided birding tours across the state of AZ. This year's theme is Carrion Birds: Nature’s Clean Up Crew, featuring the Turkey Vulture.

Granite Creek Cleanup 2022

The annual cleanup event is back again in 2022! Prescott Creeks is committed to bring a COVID-Safe Cleanup to the community. This event not only cleans up and beautifies the community, it also provides an opportunity for people to come together (physically distanced, of course) for a common cause and make a difference.

Spring for the Dells Community Art Show & Auction

Tickets are ON SALE NOW for the April 24th Spring for the Dells Art Show & Auction to benefit the important work of our friends at the Granite Dells Preservation Foundation!
$35 includes hors d’oeuvres and beer/wine, access to a fantastic selection of fine art works and local goods/services packages inspired by the Granite Dells!
There will be a FREE admission public art show and silent auction before the ticketed event.
We humans aren't the only residents of the Verde River watershed system that depend on a healthy and thriving water future! Hundreds of species of wildlife and migrating birds rely on the creeks, streams, rivers, and reservoirs of Yavapai County for habitat, food, and shelter throughout the year.
This week, Walt Anderson's Wild Wednesday photo essay features a fascinating and rare resident of the Watson and Willow Lakes reservoir system-- the hybrid duck resulting from reproduction between Mallards and Gadwalls!
"Well, such rare interspecies unions can bear fruit, resulting in a hybrid Mallard-Gadwall, showing some characteristics of each of the parental species.
The bill is black and the speculum white, both traits typical of a Gadwall. Part of the head is green, and there is a blackish collar, both suggesting the Mallard. The rusty scapulars (right atop the back) suggest a Gadwall, while the chest has patterning similar to that of a Gadwall but with rusty coloration more like a Mallard’s."
