Here we are again at the end of another week which means it's time to share our Pasifika Post with you. This Post includes some of the recent updates and changes around Covid-19, including this week's announcement about international arrivals.

If you have not been vaccinated yet or are due to have your booster, there are still some Pacific vaccination events taking place at the weekends and we have included these details below. There are also lots of other places you can get your Covid vaccination, including from Pacific provider clinics, you can find these by clicking here. Please note, the Airport Park and Ride Vaccination Centre is now closed.

Self-isolation
As you know, Covid positive cases and their households only need to isolate at home for 7 days now. These next two charts can help you work out:

1) What type of contact you are
2) If you need a test to leave self-isolation

Start with the question in the top left hand corner and follow the arrows for your answers.
The team at Prepare Pacific have updated this flow chart for the latest information.
Household members testing positive
It can be confusing to know what to do when different people in the house test positive at different times.

People who have tested positive will not need to isolate again for 3 months after they have recovered, as the risk of catching Covid again is very low during this time. Everyone else in the household, who hasn't previously tested positive, will need to isolate again if they test positive or become Household Contacts of a new positive case.
International Travel
Further border announcements have been made by the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern this week.

Currently, fully vaccinated New Zealand citizens and residents can enter New Zealand from anywhere in the world and do not need to self-isolate or enter managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ). Some other people are also able to enter NZ without needing to isolate, you can read more here. You can find information specifically on travelling from the Pacific here.

From 11.59pm 12th April 2022

The following fully vaccinated people can also enter New Zealand and do not need to self-isolate or enter managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ):

  • Australian citizens and permanent residents.
  • Current temporary work and student visa holders from anywhere in the world, with a valid visa who can still meet their visa requirements — this includes both visa holders currently offshore, and those in New Zealand who choose to travel overseas and wish to return.
  • Up to 5,000 international students from anywhere in the world, for semester 2.

From 11:59pm 1st May 2022

The following fully vaccinated people can enter New Zealand and do not need to self-isolate or enter managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ):

  • Visitors from countries who do not need a visa (visa waiver visitors).
  • Visitors from other countries who already hold a valid visitor visa.

The borders will continue to open up further to travellers in the second half of the year.

It is important to remember there are still health requirements to enter NZ for most people including:
Vaccination after having Covid
If you have had Covid, once you’ve recovered, you’re encouraged to still get vaccinated so you have the best protection against getting Covid again.

You will get the best immunity by having your vaccine or booster 3 months after you have recovered from Covid. You should speak to your GP or Nurse if you have questions or are worried.
