Last week Unique Outcomes co-directors, Amy, pAul, David and Andrew had the privilege of welcoming back one of our dearest ‘critical friends’, Russell Deal OAM, founder and former Director of St Luke’s Innovative Resources. At Unique Outcomes we value our critical friends highly for they are people who know us and our work, having watched us develop over the years, and, like any ‘appreciative audience’, they are people we know will be able to respectfully critique our work.
It follows that if we say we have a commitment to reflective practice and building a culture of feedback, then in the best traditions of parallel practice we need to follow through and be prepared to examine how our values and beliefs around social justice principles are echoed in what we do on the ground.
So as one of our critical friends Russell joined us for an hour to do what he does so well- challenge, encourage, interrogate, rev-up, surprise and inspire us with his distinctive Russell Deal brand of critical thinking into how our organisation can contribute to a more ‘human’ service system. We left the conversation with lots to think about…
