SHPE-TC Newsletter
March 2022

Dear members, students, allies, and partners,

Two years ago, in March 2020, COVID was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization and it changed our lives. Since then, SHPE-TC has adapted to navigate the “new normal” by following federal and state regulations that allowed our members to focus on their and their families’ well-being. During those two years, despite our shift in focus, we continued working with our sponsors to secure funds for our Annual Scholarships.

We acknowledge that the pandemic is not over and there are long-lasting impacts that will put us to test. More than ever we need to work together to continue supporting our Hispanic community in Minnesota. This year, SHPE-TC is turning 30 and we want to celebrate with you. Our Annual Scholarship process is in full swing and currently accepting applications until April 30th, 2022. We ask that you help us spread the word and share the application with eligible students within your networks.

Our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors: Thrivent, Stantec, and Medtronic. SHPE-TC and the local financial services organization Thrivent formalized their partnership for the 2021-2022 cycle with many exciting events. The first one will be a series of workshops focused on Financial Wellness. Join us virtually on March 30th at 6pm to learn about Financial Foundations: Investing for Retirement. Stay tuned for the next workshops in the series, which are expected to be in-person.

Moreover, we are now accepting nominations to join the Executive Board this upcoming fiscal year, for details read the section below, Board Elections 2022-2023. Finally, among other events in the works are partnerships with the student chapter at University of Minnesota and University of St. Thomas, joint summer BBQ with other local professional organizations, and happy hours and networking events at local breweries.

We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Un fuerte abrazo,

Luisa Torres
