Howdy Wasp supporters 🤠 🐝  (not sure why I started with a cowboy theme, but here it is, so bear with me) :D

It's that time of the month again - update time! As always, we start with a joke/remark about the weather, insert a semi-related gif and then move on to what's actually new! So let's get on with it :D :

Pokemons are always a safe bet :D! Ah yes, the spring is finally here and that just makes us buzz with joy!

🎆 Wasp v0.4 is out! (Prisma update, auto npm install, ...) 🎊🎊

The new version of Wasp is out and it packs a whole trunk of puppies (well, almost as good)!

This is the exact same feeling you'll get when you install the latest version of Wasp

Besides fixes and improvements, here are some cool new features:
  • Automatically regenerating your Prisma client based on your Prisma schema changes
  • Tracking your NPM project dependency changes and automatically invoking npm install as needed, so you are always up to date
Take that, puppies! You don't look so cute anymore now, do you?

👀 🤫 Beta Sneak Peek 🤫 👀  - Async Jobs! ⏰  🚚

During the last month, we've been preparing a lot of new features that will make developers' lives easier and also utilize the fact that Wasp is in fact a DSL (language) which gives us a great deal of flexibility and allows us to simplify stuff!

Other, non-flexible frameworks, trying to do stuff

A great example of that is support for running async jobs - either one-off ones (e.g. send an email to the new user) or repeating ones (e.g. generate a weekly report). It's a very common requirement and still, it takes quite a bit back and forth to make it work (and then also to keep it working)!

This is still WIP, but this is one idea of what the code might look like:

How cool is this? This would allow you to specify the complete behavior and requirements of your async job via Wasp DSL (on what infra to run, how often) and provide the actual logic to run and Wasp will take it from there - deploying, running it, everything! We're still designing this so hop in our Discord server and join the discussion!

🕹️ We are hiring - DevRel #1! 💾

After seeing how much fun it is to interact with all of you, chat about the code and also write these emails, we decided we can't be selfish and keep that to ourselves - that's why we decided to hire a #1 DevRel for Wasp!

The fun this panda is having is nothing compared to what awaits you when you join us.

If you love to code but also enjoy writing and talking to fellow developers, we'd love to meet you! For more details take a look here, and feel free to just reply directly to this email. If this is not your thing but you know somebody whose it is, feel free to forward this to them. We can't wait to hear from you!

Become a contributor and win a Wasp t-shirt! - 🧨 20 pcs only🧨

In the last update, we presented our first edition of swag, but now we want to take it to the next level - we want to make sure you all look like giant yellow wasps floating around! We have 20 new t-shirts fresh out of the press and for every submitted and approved PR per person we'll hand out a t-shirt!.

You after collecting all the Wasp swag :D

To make it easier, we already prepared a list of issues that are easy and well defined, and thus a good fit for first-time contributors. You can even filter them further by "no-haskell"!

Adding more features to Waspello also might be a nice way to get started without getting in the weeds with compiler stuff.

Wasp Github Star Growth
Total star count: 1,459 - ah, sweet 1,500, you're so close we can almost touch you! It's amazing to see all the support we are getting, that's what keeps us going! As always, huge thanks to all our contributors and stargazers.

And if you haven't yet, please star us on Github! Yes, we are shameless star beggars, but if you believe in the project and want to support it that's one of the best ways to do it (next to actually building something with Wasp - go do that too! :D). To thank you for your efforts, we'll implant a song in your head for the rest of the day:

Just replace the words with "Toss a star to your open-sourcerer..."

You are welcome! (Oh, Valley of Plenty (of github issues free for grabs :D)...)

Wasp is on Twitter - we stepped up our game and are now tweeting every day! We share memes, code examples, and will also use it to announce hackathons and swag giveaways - follow us to stay in the loop!

Instead of reading the docs, why not just follow us on Twitter?

Developer life 💻⌨️💽

Here is the cool stuff we came across this month: Do you have any tips for us (music, gear, useful apps/plugins, ...)? Let us know by tagging us on Twitter and we'll include it in the next update (with due credit of course).

This is a cowboy-themed update, remember?

That's it for this month! Thanks for reading and supporting us - if you have any feedback, ideas, or just want to share your latest swag idea (giant attachable wasp wings instead of boring t-shirts?) join our Discord or hit reply to this email!

Spread your wings and pollinate that flower! (yes, wasps do it too, you nitpicker!) 🐝🐝
