Archbishop Mark has a message for you
For the last week or two Ukraine has dominated the headlines, and rightly so. What’s happening there affects the whole world. But without turning away from Ukraine we need to keep in mind that war is raging in other parts of the world that don’t make the headlines. This week’s two-minute homily is given by Fr Ladu Yanga, and he’s from South Sudan which is racked by war. Elsewhere in Africa, there’s the conflict in Ethiopia and Eritrea. And in the Middle East there are the horrors of Yemen and Syria. Afghanistan too is caught in a spiral of violence, with all the human suffering that brings. In all of these situations, it’s the weak and vulnerable who suffer most; and each of these wars is a blight on humanity as a whole. Pope Francis has asked us all to join him on 25th March when he consecrates Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, asking her to silence the guns, the bombs and the missiles. Let’s join him in that great prayer for peace, and let’s also spare a prayer for the forgotten conflicts of the world.
