Spring Fundraiser Update

The Spring Fundraiser held on March 12th raised a total of $51,744.75
to benefit Elm School! We would like to thank Kristin Sweis, our PTO President
and the rest of the hard-working planning committee
for their efforts and dedication to the event.

A special thanks to Zeina Barakat for the professionally designed elements
that pulled off our garden-themed communications and for the special touches
to the décor at the event. We also want to recognize the families
that donated money to Elm School by bidding on the silent auction items,
both in person and online, and those that participated in the live auction.

Fellow Elm parent, John Rante, stepped in as guest auctioneer
at the last minute and did a remarkable job getting the crowd going!

We were so pleased to spend the evening with our guests of honor,
Superintendent Dr. Hector Garcia and Principal Sara Olson,
plus several of our fantastic teachers.

This would not have been possible without the generous donations of time
and money by many Elm parents and local businesses and we thank you ALL
for helping make the 2022 Spring Fundraiser such a success!

IAR Schedule- Grades 3,4,5 Only

During the month of April, your child will participate in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Elm School will administer IAR April 11-April 22, 2022. A schedule with specific dates can be found below. However, please note that make-up assessments will be taken throughout the entirety of the window.

The IAR is designed to measure students' current performance in relation to the Illinois Learning Standards for mathematics and English language arts. The standards set high expectations focused on critical thinking and real-world application of knowledge. The results from state-wide testing can be a helpful tool in measuring your student’s success in school, but are just one of the many ways readiness for the next grade is tracked.

There are five subtests in total: two reading and three math. Results of the assessment are shared the following year with families.

Assessment Schedule:

4/12: ELA 1

4/14: ELA 2

4/18: Math 1

4/19: Math 2

4/21: Math 3

Lunchroom Information: After Spring Break

As Dr. Garcia shared in his superintendent’s message earlier this week, we will be transitioning to a more traditional arrangement for lunch after spring break. Due to our lunch sizes and our lunch schedule, some grade levels will still use the individual lunchroom chairs for the remainder of this school year, however, they will no longer be seated 6 ft apart from one another. If you would like to discuss any special lunch considerations for your student, please let me know.

We will make these changes on Monday, April 4th. Prior to the transition, we will walk students through the information they need to know and what to expect as a reminder for some and orientation for those who have not experienced a traditional lunch in our school yet.

Safety Reminders

We’ve seen warmer temperatures this week. Please be advised of the following safety reminders. Students do require adult supervision and assistance to problem-solve on the playground after school.

  • Dismissal begins at 3:05 for walkers and car riders each day. Parents/Guardians must pick up their child by 3:15. Elm staff adult supervision ends at 3:15 each day.

  • If your child is remaining on Elm School property past 3:15 they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The guardian must be present and cannot be in their cars. If they are under the supervision of another parent, please notify the classroom teacher in advance.
