Dear families,

It's wonderful to see the children playing an active part in school life, raising funds for Good Shepherd, going out on visits, and engaging with our reading and attendance challenges. This all creates a sense of community and belonging for the children.

Creating a sense of community, (where everyone is valued and equal) is important to us, which is why we have a school uniform.

We need your help to keep standards high...

  • Children should come to school in a shirt or blouse with a tie.
  • Plain black shoes should be worn rather than trainers.
  • Children should remove their nail varnish/ jewellery and only stud earrings should be worn.
  • PE kits should be in school colours of yellow tops and blue shorts / joggers. (there should be no football tops or fashion t-shirts).

Please make sure your child is part of the school community, by having the correct uniform on every day.

Catholic Life - Lent

The most tremendous “thank you” to Year 5 who raised £168.80  this week during their Good Shepherd activities.

Catholic Life - Good Shepherd

Good Shepherd Activities continue next week, with Years  3 & 4 taking the lead.

Please see the dates below. More information to be given by class staff.

Year 4 also went to church to reflect and meditate with the most Holy Blessed Sacrament.

The children were a so reverent and reflected deeply.

Well done to the children who lead the service…it was overwhelming and a privilege to join in with.

Ukraine

Sunflowers are the national flower of the Ukraine. Each child will be bringing home a sunflower that can be displayed in a window of your family home.

We have also sent our families a letter about a collection for essential items that will be distributed to those in need in the Ukraine and neighbouring countries.  You can read this here if you missed it.

Parents have also asked us how to talk to their children about this sad situation.

Some great advice can be found here.

Reading

Children who are reading RWINc books are given their book each week and should bring their book back everyday ready to read in class.

You can tick your sheet to check that you have returned your book each day and RWINc books.

Children reading their own chapter books can also return their books to be entered into the prize draw raffle during the week beginning 4th April.

Wellbeing

It is always good to remember that “Connecting” and staying in touch helps us to feel that we are part of a community / friendship group.

We can connect with others in different ways other than digitally.

With your families why not try:
  • Place your sunflower picture a window in your home
  • Say “hello” and “thank you” to others
  • Write a note or draw a picture and leave it somewhere in your home for you someone you love to find.
  • Write a letter to a family member such as a grandparent and post it in a post box near your home.

There are lots more ways and I am sure that you will think of even better ways to connect with others. Tell you class teacher what you have done  in the real world 'off line' this weekend.

Pope Francis Tweets
Pope Francis sends us inspiration via his tweets.

Our favourite one this week is....

"#Lent is a favourable time to seek out – and not to avoid – those in need; to reach out – and not to ignore – those who need a sympathetic ear and a good word; to visit – and not to abandon – those who are lonely"

The amount of sleep your child needs depends on their age but is is no less 10 hours a day!

The time your child goes to bed should be determined by the time they need to get up....

Fancy giving your best parenting habits a polish, to make them sparkle and shine!

Safeguarding Update

Friday marks National Child Exploitation Awareness Day, which aims to highlight the issues surrounding child sexual and criminal exploitation, encouraging everyone to think, identify and speak out against abuse.

Agencies across Merseyside are coming together to continue to raise awareness of the sensitive issue by informing, educating and preventing the form of child abuse.

As part of this work, children and young people, their parents or carers and professionals working with children are being encouraged to visit the Listen to my Story website. Additionally, the Eyes Wide Open campaign has resources for professionals and families on their website.

Attendance - Reporting Absences
Reporting ALL absences is even more important at the moment. This helps us to keep the building Covid-19 secure.

Parents please make sure you follow our procedures carefully.

Please email Admin@smaaa.info on the first day of ANY absence. You may also telephone school on 0151 477 8400

Tell our admin staff the reason for the absence, and when you expect your child to return to school.

We thank you for you help and support with this important matter.

Please note:

All unexplained absences will be looked at by our Attendance Lead, & possibly the School Attendance Service, so it's really important that you report all absences by 10am on the first day of absence!

Remember if your child is off school due to illness,  hospital  or dental appointments,  you must  also send an email with a copy of the medical letter / proof to Admin@smaaa.info

We cannot authorise any absence without proof!

If your child needs to be off school for reasons other than illness you must make a request using the following form. School will decide if the request will be authorised and send you a letter.

Any pupil having an absence without making a request will be classed as unauthorised – so it’s really important that you inform us!

If anyone in household has a cough, temperature, or loss of smell,
then a PCR test is needed, at a test centre, lateral flow tests cannot be used!

We do not want anyone put at risk!

Attendance and Punctuality

Being on time helps with learning...

So be in time for registration by 5 to 9 every day!.
