A Church that speaks to us

Pope Francis' goal for the Synod on Synodality is to listen, especially to people who are marginalized in the Church and community. In the Diocese of Little Rock, that includes Hispanic Catholics, who say they want to feel welcome with Spanish Masses and faith formation opportunities.
Of the 132 churches in the Diocese of Little Rock, how many celebrate Mass in Spanish?

a. 109
b. 79
c. 49

(Answer at the bottom)

JUST ONE MINUTE

On Sunday we celebrate Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion. In one Mass we will cover a week of Jesus’ life, from his triumphal entrance into Jerusalem to the next Friday when we will cry out ‘Crucify him’. The readings evoke a roller coaster of emotions. It is very helpful to engage the Scripture not only with our intellect but also with our emotions.

Reflection: Take some time before Sunday to pre-read the Mass readings. Notice what stirs in your mind and in your emotions.

St. Stanislaus of Szczepanów

April 11

St. Stanislaus (1030–1079) became Krakow's bishop in 1072. He became a critic of King Boleslaus II, who threatened the bishop's death. Stanislaus excommunicated the king, who then ordered his soldiers to execute him. When the soldiers refused, the king killed the bishop himself. The murder outraged the Poles and led to the king's ouster. St. Stanislaus was canonized in 1253 and is the patron saint of Poland.

DAVE SAYS

Should kids pay rent?

My wife and I were talking the other night, and I brought up the idea of charging our son a small amount for rent, maybe just $20 or $25 a month, to help him be even better prepared for the real world. What do you think about this?

WHAT'S NEW?

Leaders on the move

Dr. Pattie Davis, president and CEO of Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock, and Father Leonard Wangler, abbot of Subiaco Abbey, have announced their departures from leadership positions at the two Arkansas institutions.
