Encouragement from Pastor David on what God is doing

As I write this, in the background is President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressing the leaders of our country, those serving in the United States Congress. Even more, he is speaking to our President, Joe Biden. “President Biden,” he pleads, “you are the leader of your great nation. I wish you to be the leader of the world. Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.”

What shines through the Ukrainian President is his great love for his countrymen and women, and his love for his country. Zelenskyy’s LOVE is demonstrated in HIS PERSONAL SACRIFICE to stay in the heart of the capital city (Kyiv), to even give his life in love for those God has called him to lead.

Genuine LOVE always is expressed in PERSONAL SACRIFICE. The very Biblical word “love” (i.e. agape) has little to do with feelings. It always expresses a love which results in sacrificial action for the benefit of another.

THIS SUNDAY – Our LOVE for God

How do you express your love for God? What does it mean to love Him?

When asked, Jesus could not have said it more plainly. “The most important commandment is this: Hear O Israel. The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, with all your strength” (Mark 12:29-30).

Translation – a Christian serious about becoming Jesus’ disciple loves God with everything she/he is. When love for God dominates the entire life, those around cannot help but notice.

As we come to worship this Sunday, come prepared to both understand, and begin to live more fully, your whole-person love for God.

To inform your prayers, letters of invitation are being sent this week to a group of 12 committed Free Church members, asking them to consider serving on the Pastoral Search Team. Names are being kept confidential at this point, to allow for their private consultation with the Lord and a prayerful response. We are asking the Holy Spirit to provide His urge in their hearts to serve in this way.

Though not knowing their names at this juncture, will you pray for them as they consider this service to the Lord and to our church? These are exciting days of search and decision. We need the Lord’s team to engage in a discerning search for our next pastoral leader.
