Edition 83

Hope you are having a fabulous time since the Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies festival launch!

To be honored on our Wall of Fame, do you have to be a celebrity or a famous filmmaker? This question is a pressing question regarding social justice issues. Our goal is to “give a voice” and bridge gaps with compelling stories despite the politics of fame and fandom.

In the spirit of bridging gaps, the Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies (CMCS) invites all independent artists and scholars to exhibit audiovisual/print media with a social justice message.

Production

Finally, CMCS Media started contributing to film productions to combine research and stories with a social message! After being nominated at the Berlin Flash Film Festival, CMCS conference chair Louis Massey completed his second film The Leak (2022), in which we both acted. You can now watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywihNavrHuA

Earlier, I acted in the film Between Doors (Dir. Hussene Keshavjee). Huge thanks to Europa Film Festival for nominating the film in Barcelona, Spain, and screening it in Argentina!

All CMCS productions, screenings, and media relations draw on our conference proceedings & Intellect Books journal publications edited by Sabrina Moro and Kiera Obbard. Huge congratulations to Sabrina for graduating with her Ph.D. on celebrity feminism this month!
