Chapter 58 April 2022 Newsletter

President's Message

April 2022

Hello All,

I saw a few of you at the Logan breakfast a couple weekends ago, I am glad that some of you were out flying. I finished the annual on my 210 the following Sunday and moved it from the shop in Logan to the hangar in Ogden. My annual was fairly straight forward with only a few parts required. I enjoy doing an owner assisted annual so I can learn as much as possible about my plane and how it works. I am part way through an airframe specific video course put on by the Cessna Pilots Association and hope to attend one in person some time. We are hoping to get the inspection done on the hangar bathroom so we can move forward with the drywall efforts to get it finished up. We will reach out for some help when the time comes. Thank you to all of you for your Young Eagles efforts! I look forward to seeing you at Bernie’s hangar at the next meeting, I managed to get some work travel rearranged so I can actually attend the meeting!

Our first YE event of 2022 was a digital success and a record setting event!  This was the earliest event ever planned and it was completely paperless!  There were a few minor hitches but nothing traumatic!  Also, we flew 33 Young Eagles!  Thank you to all who supported this event: pilots, ground crew and CB employees.  Thank you Rex, for all the pictures. Special thanks to Rene', Chance, Adam, Chris and Jenny who put in the extra effort into going completely paperless!

Our chapter 2021 Young Eagles credit notification letter arrived and we earned $1440!  Thank you to all those who participated in anyway in 2021.  We will be able to increase our Air Academy scholarship to include airfare in addition to covering just the tuition!

Next Events:
Apr 23 - Ogden Hinckley Airport
May 21 - Morgan County Airport

Scholarship Updates

Training continues to go awesome! Working around weather difficulties is something I’m currently learning a great deal about, as I’m sure you all have experienced. My checkride is approaching very quickly, and right now training is focused towards tuning up little deficiencies in my flying so I can crush that practical exam!”

2022 Ray Scholarship Status
The chapter is reviewing the applications we have received and expect to have a candidate selected before the end of the month.  Thanks to all the members that solicited candidates.

Our summer Air Academy scholarship winner this year is Hyrum Francom from Malad, ID.  His father is an EAA member with a split personality (kidding!)  Living in Malad, he follows EAA chapters in both Ogden and Blackfoot!  Hyrum is a member of the Civil Air Patrol cadet program and has flown in both a powered aircraft and a glider.  He is currently working to complete his ground school training.  We look forward to meeting Hyrum at a future meeting.
